I want to get this game to experiment with for a few hours but I don't want to pay anything more than a few dollars. (I've heard there are loads of technical problems and the game itself is quite simplistic.) Still, I'm curious to experiment with the multiple phases of the game.

How often does it go on sale? Do you think its price will drop below $5 anytime soon?

The sales goes through January's first. If you wait you might find Spore in a daily deal during this holiday sale with a bigger discount.
It doesn't go on sale very often because the ea/valve problem. But I've seen Spore on sale before.
I want to buy it to, but i would like a better discount on the package. I've played it before (pirate version) and i just found a glith near the end but was fixable.

I bought this game at launch (one day before actually) and I don't remember ever having any technical problems. I played it a lot, too. It's a fun game if you ignore all the marketing and hype and play it for what it is.
