There was a 112 mb update just now.
Anyone know what that is?

No idea. I really wish there were patch notes available because I'm interested to know what they've done.

Figured out that the update still didn't fix the time not resetting on the Wind Fortress.
There is a new folder, "Xmas" and I saw a picture of *SPOILER* Ballos with a white beard and Santa hat. XD
But it looks like quite a few new Christmas sprites for characters and stages were added too.

The achievements still weren't fixed though.

I just retried for these two: Fish Preserve and Mimiga Hero in Curly Story and I can confirm that they don't work.

I played this game way back when it was released by pixel, so that's what I'm playing it for as well. But achievements are part of the Steam product - and a patch to fix the broken achievements was promised.

I am giving it time. I just thought I should spare other people replaying 4 boss fights in a row by updating them on the fact that the cheevos have not been fixed.

Another bug for me: I can't seem to enter doors or interact with anything with Gamepad controls enabled (pressing down). I can press down to navigate the menus just fine, but not in-game for some reason. If I use JoyToKey and just keep Keyboard controls enabled, it works, but this is just silly. It's crazy how bugged this game is for PC, and the "update" didn't seem to address anything at all.

Are you using analog stick or D-pad? I had some problems with the game recognizing down on the stick.

A quick look into steamapps/common/cavestory/data/Xmas/season show that a lot of the graphics have been altered to be christmas themed.

Are you using analog stick or D-pad? I had some problems with the game recognizing down on the stick.

D-Pad, or "Hat switch", or "POV switch", or whatever you want to call it. In the Controls menu, it correctly assigns them to "D-Pad Up, Down, Left, Right", and it responds just fine when navigating the menu. Also, in-game, I can move left and right just fine, but pressing down or up does nothing in front of a door way, save point, or heart refill. Very weird.

I'm using a Classic Controller Pro to USB adapter, and Windows 7 recognizes it just fine too.

I'm in the same boat as others on this thread. Pressing down on the d-pad seems to do nothing and now I'm stuck in the first room. It's strange because down clearly works on the menu screen.

I'm on a Mac using the Wii-to-PC Mayflash adapter with a Classic Controller.
