View Full Version : New patch - game wont start beyond menu

12-21-2011, 05:29 AM
I think the game patched last night I was playing, stopped for a moment then tried to restart, now the game won't go passed the initial menu screen. I can enter options, but clicking play just flashes the menu back up again. Can anyone help?

I have 16gb Ram, Core i7 processor, Nvidia 580 graphics, windows 7 (64)
Is there anyway to check the game version without entering the game?

To check the game version go to the Skyrim folder
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\skyrim

Right click on TESV.exe and select "Properties"
Click on the "Details" tab in the properties window
File and product version should give you the current game version (

As for the core problem, not sure beyond doing the standard verify game cache (May overwrite some custom configuration changes). Make sure you remove all mods/3rd party executables that you may have added to Skyrim too.

TESV.exe wont run - windows says incompatible program - does not run even with compatibility mode.

Thanks for your help though.

delete tesv.exe, steam will download it again..

That worked! Thanks.

Here's what I did....

Delete TESV.EXE from C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\skyrim

Restart Steam,
Go to Games libary, open properties then verify local content.

Steam reloads the file.

Game starts, job Done!
