And saying that they should cost more as far as one year ago, now his newest game is available on Steam for under 2.

So, what happened? xD

Steam happened.

Back when he wrote that, their games weren't on Steam, most of their sales came from their website. From their perspective at the time, it made perfect sense.

Now, they've embraced Steam and they've adapted.

Valve can't just slash prices without the devs permission, but what it can do is come to them and say "hey, how about we put your game in the Winter Sale highlights at 75% off, give it exposure and score you a gazillion sales, you guys cool with that?"

I think its the opposite.

Unless the game is selling really well at retail price like say Skyrim its the devs that want their game to be featured on a daily sale or holiday event so they can make big money on the sheer volume of sales being promoted as one of the daily sales brings.
