He's probably referring to the nVidia drivers found here:
http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us
Look under "Option 3", the beta drivers should be there.
As for the OpenGL problems, you can check what versions of OpenGL your GPU supports with this nifty little tool.
http://ononesoft.cachefly.net/support/DoctorGL.exe.zip
Download, scan, extract and run. It'll spit out a bunch of info regarding your GPU's OpenGL support. Won't fix any problems, but it might help you diagnose them.
Incidentally, I too am having c++ runtime errors. Haven't fixed them yet. Don't have nVidia, so I can't try these drivers.

I don't have NVIDIA either; i have ATI. Which is unfortunate because ATI sucks. Also the DoctorGL program doesn't seem to want to work; keep's talking about corrupted memory.

Hmmm... Odd. You can try OpenGL Extensions Viewer.
http://www.realtech-vr.com/glview/download.html
It's not so lightweight, but has a few more features. Try the Rendering Tests to verify your OpenGL compatibility. The store page for Jamestown states OpenGL 2.0 is required.
I've made no progress troubleshooting my game. How far do you get before your game crashes?

Literally the same exact error; attempted to read or write to protected memory.

Curious. What graphics card do you have? Does the viewer crash when attempting to install, run, or run the render test? At which point does Jamestown crash?
If you can get past the main menu, I could send you a save so you could try a few other levels. My game crashes when attempting to play some missions, but not others. Perhaps yours is the same.

I have a similar error, but funny thing on one computer (ATI, 32 bit) it works great on the other (Intel 64 bit) it crashes with this error when I start a mission, but the tutorial does work. So I guess it's not really graphics related...

I am having the same exact problem too. Hm...

Evilsteel, are you using an Intel GPU? Borsook and I are. I suspect that the issue is related to the Intel graphics drivers.
Hi, I'm using an Intel HD onboard graphics on my Dell laptop and am having the exact same C++ runtime issue as you.
Currently I can 'play' the game as far as the first mission, the tutorial works fine. Just before I enter the first mission the game crashes.
Have updated the drivers and checked that I have OpenGL 2+ (actually 2.1 according to opengl viewer).
Hopefully there is a solution to this as it looks like a fun game. Got it as part of the HIB. There's also a Christmas achieve to get.

Looks like the crash is related to the Intel drivers.
While it's probably impossible for us end users to do something about it, I can at least share a save that will let you play a few levels. Campaign missions 3 and 4 work, as do the currently unlocked challenge maps. You might need Gunpowder DLC to use this save.
http://www25.zippyshare.com/v/63558094/file.html
Place this in your save folder, usually located in
[USER]\Documents\Saved Games
Hopefully, Intel support will improve soon. In the mean time, use this to get a bit of play out of your game :P
