Buying from the Humble Bundle supports the devs. You choose if you support charity.

The season of ripping charity off? People like you don't even deserve video games.

Do they even make money on a penny purchase? I know Paypal charges them for their service....

No they don't make any money. They loose money due to the processing fees.
This is Paypal's fee for standard merchants:
"2.9% + $0.30
PER TRANSACTION
(Discounted Rates Available)"

They don't lose anything (apart from having more info in their database), they just don't get anything either. PayPal just eats the entire payment and leaves it at that.

No, that's not why. It had something to do with the Steam gift pile promotion and automated accounts farming achievements.
Based on your point of view, why wouldn't they just start with a minimum price in the first place if they didn't want people throwing down a penny for those games?

you ought to be ashamed of yourself if you don't pay at least one dollar per game included which you actually buy the bundle for...
Edit: bought the bundle (my first indie bundle), mostly for Jamestown but i beat the average in order to get all the bonus games as well. unfortunately, they're all out of Steam keys for #4. waiting for resupply. :(

To be honest I bought for myself a Indie Bundle and... Jamestown is not worth the money but "And Yet It Moves" is awesome and from that bundle, Shank and "Super Meat Boy" are both awesome also. If you wanna play a game similar to Jamestown try Raptor. It's an old game but it's 100 times more interesting and way more advanced in terms of gameplay and action than this game.

That was an awesome game. The publisher, 3D Relms, actually made it shareware along with most of their other titles. You can get it here: http://www.3drealms.com/downloads.html
But be warned, a lot of these older games don't run on newer machines, even when using DOSbox. They tend to run a lot faster than they should. :( So try to play them on an XP or older, if you can.

And yeah, anyone who doesn't pay more than the average price on a HIB is a tool. If just giving to a children's charity isn't incentive enough, they also give you extra games if you pay more than the average. And if their revenue exceeds that of the previous bundle, they also give you a separate key for that COMPLETELY FREE (again, if you paid more than the average), which you can then gift to a friend!

Seriously, paying $0.01 - $1.00 for the Humble Indie Pack #4 (which now includes #3) is a personal "**** You!" to the Devs and Charity...
Sadly, I bet a majority who bought the pack for that price also bought MW3 and Skyrim full tilt... People are just heartless, greedy *******s. With behavior like this, I'm not surprise why the economy where it is today...

Maybe, but maybe not. Personally I paid substantially more than this, though a little less than I might have as I already owned SMB and GSB.
People who bought the keys just to game the Steam Holiday Sale earn none of my respect, but I can certainly think of cases where I can see that even $1 might start to strain some budgets. I'll agree that these may be edge cases when you include the fact that one also needs access to a PC to play the games, but it's certainly not out of the realm of possibility, and the admins of the Humble Bundles were kind enough to still allow the issue of Steam keys for sub $1 buyers on a case-by-case basis.
I think major props go to these guys to be willing to think of a worldwide audience, and accept that one person's pocket change is another person's entire discretionary budget.
Sadly, I bet a majority who bought the pack for that price also bought MW3 and Skyrim full tilt...
I bet they actually downloaded them from torrents. Its a lot easier to find pirated best-sellers rather than indies, thats why they rip off the bundle.
But you can still buy its dlc if you got it from bundle, it has some nice ships to play with your friends!

To Paralipsis and Ralp:
All valid points. I can say only so much since I was busy today. I guess I was going for the message "give what you can give" (ala the Bible with the Widower giving a miniscule amount compared to the Pharisees, yet Jesus says that she gave more because of her heart and of her financial proportionality).
Also, I know that there are people who have limited resources and finances, and whatever the can gave is amazing. In fact, I can see this as a reverse charity to the people without money. What gets me though is people giving away codes for these packs on the Team Fortress 2 for 2.33 Refine (~$2.50). I know for a fact that they were buying these codes in surplus (buying the pack at dirt cheap) and trading these for in-game metal... Which is simply disgusting!
The torrent is a factor, but I think the pirates would have pirate the indie games anyways.
Anyways, I know that it defeats the purpose, but I think the Indie bundle should have at least a $5.00 min for what they are giving away...
Second to last, the people who buy this for dirt cheap (on purpose) may buy the next product at full retail (hopefully).
Lastly, I am amaze by the 2 million dollar mark and I applaud the Devs. More importantly, the money that they raise will significantly help Child's Play and Red Cross. This is truly amazing.

Until recently all Humble Bundles came with Steam keys regardless of the amount paid. That was until lowlifes started exploiting it for worthless discount vouchers and lumps of coal. After that started happening, the HIB folks had to change the rules on the fly.

I think I paid $6 for it. I tend to at least pay $5 and sometimes as much as $10 depending on what are in the packs. If I already have a lot of games the pack offers I pay $5, although I like it when some packs let you gift extra keys *to games you own* to friends.
I got to gift pack 3 to a friend *gift, I didn't trade or ask for anything for the pack, I gave it to him for FREE!*...

I like Jamestown a lot, I find it a good challenge, and it has great music. Raptor was incredible though, I remember playing it all the time when I went round my friends house years ago and we loved it!
There was another one similar to it he had too but I can't remember what it was called, and it was set in space. I also remember there being a cheat to instantly teleport to level 29 in the first level too....
