Been trying for about 2 hours now. Patch gets stuck in the middle, I try quitting, check cache integrity, restart. Gets stuck every time.

You're not. I have the same problem and I've already found a few other topic with exactly the same error message as me ('the patch was downloaded a patch file list and is a different file'). None of them offered a solution though.

Same for me. Patching failed at like 97%.
If i try to start the game after that it keeps saying "looking for patch content" but nothing ever happens. Sigh.

Same problem here :(
Edit for below: You're kidding me? A huge download that took over 6 hours for me, another bloody patching update that ive been trying to run without getting any errors ( ERROR: Downloading incorrect file!...WELL DON'T ♥♥♥♥ING DOWNLOAD IT THEN!)...& now another patch? WTF!
Edit: Yep its true :( After finally getting the patch to work & selecting a server, its now downloading another patch. Great start.

Wait wtf. It finall worked after several attemps and I get to pick a server and theres ANOTHER patcher after that!? Are you ♥♥♥♥ing kidding me? Is there even a real game or do you just keep downloading things and at some point they want money for the last patch and you pay because you already invested so much time oO?

well I managed to solve the problem.
I've had comodo antivirus / firewall working in the background, and for some reason by disabling it completely I managed to patch the game.
Strange.. but it works. So in case you have an antivirus / antispyware / firewall program running, even if it doesnt give out warning messages, disabling it for the update might work for you.

Didn't work for me and I have Comodo as well. Did you shut the program off completely or just disable a couple of features?

I was having problems patching the game as well. I did not do any disabling of programs, I just waited a few minutes and tried running the game again. It eventually worked (in less than fifteen minutes, its not like a few hours went by). I thought this information might help someone, so there you go. :)

I solved the problem by adding ClientLauncher.exe as a trusted application for my firewall (COMODO).
Edit: I couldn't get past the Perfect World splash screen and gave up.
Uninstalled without even seeing what the game looks like.

It is weird that it keeps breaking in different places. I just kept trying, now it's almost finished patch 1.

I disabled Comodos features - didn't turn it off completely.
I think the game is breaking up in so many different places because it tries to install some invasive security programs, seem some people complain about that. So perhaps firewalls think its a virus.

[FIXED]
Hey all,
I had the same problem. When patching, the patch process would hang with the same error as mentioned above(different file, same type). I followed the above mentioned work around and it worked. I disabled my security software, closed steam and ran the client launcher from within the steam folder. Things moved MUCH faster. The patch process completed. I closed everything out, normalized my software settings and I can run the game now from steam.
Thanks!
