Can't connect to server/server connection hangs

Whenever I try to connect to a multiplayer server, the connection hangs on sending client info. Any remedy for this?

Connecting to servers on other games (TF2, KF, etc) seems fine.

(As a side note, I used to have the "Error verifying STEAM UserID Ticket" problem when connecting to a multiplayer server, however I think I've resolved that by deleting everything except the .exe and steamapps).

Other than re-installing as a last resort, try to find the steam.exe file in your steam folder (steam\steamapps\username\the ship\ship.exe) and click on properties under windows 7. Click the compatibility tab and check "run as administrator". That works for other games where i've had problems.

I don't know what I did, but things seem to be working fine now. I've got pretty good knowledge of Steam and the source engine, but I have no idea why things went back to normal without me really doing anything. It's strange.
