View Full Version : Is there any way to turn off v-sync?

I would prefer to have it off but the graphics options are very limited. Is there a config file or command line code I can use to disable v-sync?

Hi,
Currently there is no way to tweak the graphics settings. We didn't feel that it was necessary as the game is already running on pretty old hardware.
Why would you want to disable the v-sync? To make it run faster?

Generally, people want V-Sync off as an option because it adds a considerable amount of input lag to most games with it on using the mouse.
Now I just tried the games demo and I feel as though I could play this game with it on (rare exception) however, I'd also appreciate the option to turn it off regardless.

Simply not true. It has been implicated in some games, but they are the exception to the rule.

I usually turn v-sync off too, because if it's turned on, my mouse lags and my eyes hurt. But as I played demo, I think it's OK in Rochard..

You don't game much, or don't have the hand eye coordination to notice it. I notice it in any game. Period.

Vsync (double buffering) can add latency or framerate instability when your machine is struggling with the game already. Why this happens has been explained many times in detail, so google it if you're curious. The solution is to use triple buffering, which uses more video memory but resolves latency issues.
Since Rochard uses DirectX you should be able to force triple buffering in the game with D3DOverrider. It comes with RivaTuner (http://downloads.guru3d.com/download.php?det=163).

if you have an Nvidia card you can also use the Nvidia Control Panel to add a profile for the game and force specific settings for Vsync or Triple Buffering for example

That's true... AMD doesn't add that option for D3D in their control panel, unfortunately. It will let you force triple buffering in OpenGL games though.

sorry, but to put it simply; you're wrong.

v-sync is on by default? Rock on. ^_^
An option to toggle it Off would be nice though,
however I'm happier with no option then having no v-sync...
I get horrible screen tearing when it's set to off.
(Not on this game, just on others.)

In some cases my computer can't quite hack it and the framerate drops below 60. This doesn't happen in every game, but with v-sync on in Rochard if it drops even 1 frame the framerate will plummet to 30fps and then as soon as it is able to reach 60 again it will rise back up to 60.
If I find that a game does this then (Like the Witcher 2) I will usually turn v-sync off as I find the constant 30-60 dipping and rising to be much more distracting than the framerate controlling itself.

CannonGoose, also try enabling triple buffering (as described above). What you're experiencing is exactly what triple buffering is meant to solve.

Ok, how can I do that? I have an AMD card and the only options I have in the Catalyst Control Centre are ones that will affect all games.
Edit: Totally found how to add profiles for specific games. Trying it now.
Edit 2: Wait, I can't seem to figure it out at all. Help!

As I said earlier, AMD users need to enable triple buffering using D3DOverrider, which comes with RivaTuner. Download RivaTuner and fish the D3DOverrider folder out of the package. (Don't use RivaTuner itself.) You run D3DOverrider with these settings:
Start with windows: off
Global: Application Detection Level: High
Force Triple Buffering & Force VSync both On.
Leave it running and start your game. When you're done with the game, close D3DOverrider completely. You can also just leave D3DOverrider running all the time and set up specific game profiles in it instead of using Global.

That has fixed it! Thanks for your help, zoinks.
