Received an email stating that Total Annihilation is on sale for $2.99 at amazon (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004GHNFWI/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&tag=epreneurs-20&linkCode=as2&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B004GHNFWI). I know that when it was released a long time ago, it was considered by many to be one of the best RTSs to ever be released. Just wondering for those of you who have played it along with all the current RTS how TA stacks up? I've seen videos and read reviews for it, and it looks like an early version of the supcom series.

At $3 bucks, I'm going to purchase it.

You can download TA for free here (http://d-gun.com/).

Installation instructions can be found here (http://d-gun.com/install.htm).

I've been playing TA a bit here and there, and it is still one of my favorite RTS games of all kind. I'm a fan of Chris Taylor's work. It sounds like you haven't played it before, and I highly recommend that you do. Keep in mind it is from 1997, but it is still and always will be a classic.

TA's a great game even to this day.

It still puts the sequels of SupCom 1 & 2 to shame in many areas (especially the music).

You had to really fight hard in order to advance to tier2 in a PvP situation. Against an AI or in campaigns it was easy. Against an evenly matched opponent, you can expect rows of solid defense structures (missile turrets) just out of range of each other, with units constantly dying in the kill zone, until the stale mate can be broken with a Long Range Plasma Cannon. Then you can force fire your LRPC onto the wreckage of your opponents LRPC to make him suffer the loss of 1.6k metal.

Ir's also $3 on gog.com until tomorrow and that one comes with the soundrack.

GoG provides an excellent service so please, if you haven't bought it from Amazon yet, consider supporting them instead.

You can also play spring rts for a TA like experience. Most of the standalone mods there are based on TA and they're free.

Www.springrts.com I think is the site. It might take you a while to get set up though :p
