View Full Version : Legitly mad about this achievement.

I've done quite a few runs on Binding of Isaac since a friend gifted it to me the game when it got a sale, and I've been looking forward to the game. However, with the achievement and the contest going to end in less then half a day as of typing this, I cant help but feel rushed. Now, I already got this achievement, but let me tell you how hard it was.

First three runs I didnt care for it.
Fourth-7th run I got 5~ devil rooms, no Krampus, though I was happy to have gotten Brimstone and a soul heart deal on one of them.
8th run I was kinda getting worried that I wouldn't get the achievement, so I just said 'screw it' when I didnt get a devil room and used a shovel on the womb 2, and nearly beat Sheol for the first time with Cain.
9/10th run aka this one (cant remember) I just got him. The Depths 1, at that, yet I took damage in the boss room and outside it, Havent gotten a single satanic item, and didnt kill a beggar on this floor. I had a really low chance of getting a devil room, and prolly not even a 3% chance to get Krampus. Which, I did, And beat him fairly quickly and easily. My reward? Some in-game coal and a 33% off Valve games coupon.

Normally, I wouldn't be upset: It's just a game, right guys? However I pretty much skipped out on Christmas Eve parties, Christmas Dinners, and New Year's party because of this achievement. The game is great, but I had to rush and I just BARELY made it. It's like having to rush a comic you've been working on for a long while and giving it to your publisher just an hour before the deadline, and getting next to no money from it. Why cant Valve make it so that 'okay this achievement is REALLY HARD so lets give the user something good for getting it okay?' But, Nope, They just pick random achievements that are hard and make people spend hours of their time aiming to get them. For a ♥♥♥♥ty coupon where the 50% version is more common.

Hell, ANYTHING would have been better. Even a piece of coal. But of course, none of this really matters as Steam doesnt really care about their userbase because they can. But that's a rant for another time, I guess.

10th try, and you're unhappy.. really? I needed 25 hours for first try at Krampus, and still fully enjoy the game and challenge. Forget about objectives, they didn't have good rewards in the first place.

I'm not going to forget about the achievements as they are for games I already own, and I can go out of my way to get them. I had the tools, it was just more difficult then any sane man would'va done. Thankfully, I'm not sane. I think.

Took me 12 hours myself to get it. But that actually made me love this game. It's amazing.

And in the end it's your choice to either party hard or play games.
It wasn't forced on you. And that's how life goes, it was a lottery.

You know what the possible rewards are, you know how 'hard' the achievement is - I'm not sure you can blame Steam for the hours you put into an optional achievement.

To anyone who's trying for it, just do it as an incidental to the rest of your gameplay - it's just not worth it.

And to anyone who feels screwed over, try completing 'Rampage World Tour' in one sitting, and see the ending. I personally blame it for ending my childhood and introducing me to a world of disappointment.

I was playing the game and rushing to get the achievement, not like the achievement was the only thing on my mind, but it was a very big part of it.

I'm sorry, it was still your choice to do so - honestly, I don't think you should have prioritised the game over real life commitments.

If the coupon means that much to you, you can have the ones I 'earned' in steam, but, and I don't want to sound horrible here, you might want to consider what made you sacrifice real-life fun for pixels.

I pretty much skipped out on Christmas Eve parties, Christmas Dinners, and New Year's party because of this achievement.

If you really did it sort your priorities next time, I agree the choices of achievements for some games were outrageous, go look at super meat boy, that people that got it had to use trainers, it's a lot harder than TBoI, also revenge of the titans is very hard, but no way I'd lose my parties over a lame discount coupon or coal.

I agree with you Steam screwed up this Christmas, summer event was the best there was, I still have about 4 achievements that I gave up, crimecraft cause I can't run the game, says game unavailable, TBoI, super meat boy and revenge of the titans, but man did I eat and drink :D

Never trade a party for a game, ever.

Oh great. Is it always this with people? It's either 0% or 100%? Black and White? I played the game for a run, said 'meh might as well attempt to get the kringle♥♥♥♥er' and next thing you know its 4 hours later and I completely missed a party. Not that I went out of my way to not go do ♥♥♥♥ in real life, but that's besides the point. The point is that this is an extremely hard achievement purely because there's next to no skill involved.

In that case, if your time management is poor, I suggest you buy an alarm.

Hey I do agree with you at some point, I got a friend who did 5 achievements and won 2 free games, I did 29 and the only thing I won was coal and those lame coupons, and to help the matter these 4 achievements I couldn't do (and couldn't have another chance at free games) jarateed me off, but I'm over it now, at least I enjoyed playing 2 of those free games, rusty hearts and rise of immortals.

thats your fault not the games. its not like the game beat you and forced you to stay indoors. you could leave at any time.

It's you who screwed up, not the game. What the hell? The only thing you can be mad at, is yourself. Just set an alarm on your cellphone, smartphone, or whatever people use today, or something.

I wasn't talking about achievements, I meant don't rush it for holiday objective that will reward you nothing good, you could get the achievement later. Difficult? Have you tried the Super Meat Boy holiday achievement? :p

What's the point of this thread? You were chasing a difficult achievement, you missed your party because you're too busy playing, and now you want to blame the game?

GROW UP.

We need a de-rep button, srsly. Then anyone with negative rep shouldn't be allowed to post in forums.

Actually, that's probably true :P Maybe too steep a price to pay for having to put up with nonsense threads like this!

I don't know why we expect more from the steam forums. See the TF2 forums full of 'OMG EQUALZIER SO OP' 'Can we have more hatz plz?' and 'INORDINATE BUFF TO WHATEVER CLASS I LIEK', and wonder how it took so long for the contagion to spread to the TBOI boards.

I particularly like the irony that, after grinding a basic achievement for hours to get everything in the 'Great Gift Pile' event, he accuses us of being either 0% or 100% people.

I remember when playing games was a choice, something that you did as a hobby. Instead, Steam forces you to play games just to keep turning over a profit using some sort of dollar-fisted Bruja magic.

Now, to top it off, we have Steam offering us the chance to win games. It's like Hitler has triumphed again, beating Christmas into submission with his genocidal goodwill. I bet Jesus is turning on his cross.

It's not steam's fault you lack common sense

sorry xD a little hard to read sarcasm on text, specially when i spent several days watching that one "18 year old reviewer" crying that this game was too hard XD
