View Full Version : Ao3 main campaign saves not accessible via the Complete main game.

So, essentially it would appear that save games made in The Asian Dynasties don't appear in the "AoE3: Complete" game - even though the saves in question were for the main AoE3 campaign "Blood and Steel".
Any ideas if it's possible to get them to work in both - given it's the exact same campaign?

Asian Dynasties is backwards compatible with both WarChiefs and the original.
Warchiefs is compatible with the original
The original is not compatible with any of those.
You should play the asian dynasties only, because in that you have access to all three campaigns if you own all three games.
It's a weird system, but then again this game is from 2005.

The reasoning for the above (which Czqnielsen is spot on with the explanation)
Age of Empires III was released in 2005
The War Chiefs was in 2006
The Asian Dynasties was in 2007
Each was initially sold separately (until 2008 where the first two were bundled, and the complete collection came in 2009).
In essence, TAD is the newest, and despite them being the same campaign it marks which version of the game you're playing it with.

Yeah, unfortunately I thought as much but posted in the hopes that it would be resolvable. Ah well, if it's backwards compatible I guess I can play using Asian Dynasties MP with people whom don't own the expansions (naturally without the factions/units the expansions add)?

Online multiplayer works a bit differently actually.
If you want to play the core MP, launch the core game. For TAD, launch that. (There's almost nobody playing just TWC, so I would suggest either vanilla or TAD)
