So after buying this again to have on my steam account I am getting back into this. Can someone point out a good team for a newer player and a great build order for that civ? I keep getting rushed quickly or having a weak civ or army depending on which one is stronger.

I wouldn't mind some tips myself. I wonder if there are replays online to watch, those always help me when I get into multiplayer for an RTS.

Are there any civs you want to play or are you just looking for the easiest?

Spain are pretty easy & versatile if you're starting out, as are French.

I'd stay away from the civs added in TWC and TAD until you're a little more familiar with the game (apart from Iroquois, they are simple enough)

I can give you a handful of build orders that aren't too hard to learn.

Yeah there's enough in there to keep anyone going for a while!

Try RTS Sanctuary as well for guides etc.

Build? Ottomans disregard that completely by the automatic production :D. With food crates you can advance pretty fast since you're not using it on anything. Usually grab plenty of wood for 2~ houses and a barracks and then get an army of janissaries(these guys are awesome). Mix them up with some abus gunners and you have a very lethal army. I find the Ottomans really easy but I get a lot of people who either find the rate at which villagers spawn too slow or prefer other civs with their builds.

As much as I'd like to play Dutch since I am Dutch I cannot recommend it much. It's really hard finding a balance of gathering the gold to make more villagers and getting resources for age advancement/armies. I suppose the void of using food there can also help you make an army.

Always stick to the principal of getting to the 2nd age as soon as possible, making a small army to either rush or defend. I suggest staying close to base to call out minutemen for additional defence if necessary.

Oh yeah, russian rushes with the mass armies are hilarious too, but probably not that great once fought off :p. I recall years ago where I did 2v2s with a buddy and it's a very simple, single minded strategy that can work on poor players.

Thank you for the tips. I seem to be getting rushed and knocked out before the second age. I have some work to do.
