How's the Co-op?

I once played Evochron Mercenary years ago at a friend's house, but I dont recall there being a "co-op" option. What's it like? Do 2 people play along in the "campaign." Or is it like how most co-op games are? (A loosely based term meaning you can play with a friend against other people in a "Co-op Deathmatch") Or is it just "A few select Co-op missions" like Rage did?

Co-ops are any missions where a group of pilot do the same mission. Its obviously easier to kill a load of bad guys if there's more than one pilot to deal with them. Even if you happen to be in the same sector when its completed you get the prize money!! Conversely however if you go out of sector you fail the contract while the other pilots may still be doing it.
