UPDATE - Problem fixed for myself, deleted everything in my Steam folder except steamapps (folder) and steam.exe, then I launched steam.exe.

I don't know what that's about. Sounds like a Steam issue.
Haven't heard anyone else having that problem.
We'll need to look into that.

Yea, it looks more like a Steam error, although its been like that for more than a few minutes.

Same thing here....the message, after purchase says this..
"No Steam Servers are available, please check back in a few minutes"
I have, it doesn't....
Lets be clear here... Bad Friggin Start....Best way to screw up an indie game experience? Pay for it and be told you can't actually get it. One might actually come away thinking "hey, maybe I shouldn't buy games from small cos"

I'm very sorry to hear you are having these troubles.
There is nothing we can do about it on this end currently, however.
I'm sure it will be fixed soon.

same problem. paid for the game over an hour ago, but still can't download the content. i've tried at least once every 5 or 10 minutes. i also tried changed my cloud server to 5 different locations, and no luck at all. i know it's a Steam issue and not Futuremark's fault - but it still angers me that i paid for a game that is supposedly "released" and can't play it for over an hour. i used to love Steam, but with more and more ongoing problems (look at Mass Effect 3, Skyrim breaking the LAA mod, etc.) i'm beginning to seriously consider alternatives.

What the...
It's a Steam issue and it could have happened to ANY game, big or small, it's not because it's a small indie game that this is happening.
I understand that you feel angry because you can't play the game you bought, but seriously, don't be so emotional but rather be rational when discussing such matters. The game is great and I am sure you will enjoy it once you will be able to play it. =)
The best thing to do is to contact Steam support, you won't get any help anywhere else.
I could download the game without any issue whatsoever, on the other hand.

Still can't download it here in the bay area, California. Not blaming the dev, just noting that's it's been several hours. Seems odd for a Steam glitch of this type to last so long.

I'm having same problem
I don't know whoose fault it is, but it irks me that I can't play the game I purchased!
My friends want to know how the game since they saw I bought it and all I can tell them is that I can't FRACKING PLAY IT.
BTW, futuremark isn't exactly a small company. You might know them better for their benchmarks such as 3dMark11, etc.

The download was slow for me but I find that steam can be a bit erratic with download speeds.

Nothing to do with speeds, I'm well aware and familiar with the steam message about the content servers too busy.
This is NOT that error message. This message says the steam content servers don't even have the game loaded in?!
Look at the image link above.

Same problem here, I'm in the Netherlands.
Even tried switching to different download servers (UK, Spain, a US server) - no result.
It's a general problem though:

Good to see someone from Valve has posted there.

Can't download here too in Brazil .. been a few hours after the purchase ...
Very frustrating ......
I don't see that error, which suggests Steam didn't have it ready to go before the "Now On Sale" switch was flipped. I get the "The Steam servers are too busy to handle your request. Please try again in a few minutes."
I've had that happen before when buying brand new games. Certainly can't blame the developer. Even Steam only has a limited supply of bandwidth. :) It's still faster and easier than mail order!

Except the too busy message happens almost every big title release on steam. I certainly CAN blame steam for that message. Interestingly, its NOT a lack of bandwidth, you can check all content server bandwidth load here:
http://store.steampowered.com/stats/content/
Everytime I see that message and I check the stats, the servers aren't fully loaded for a region. Maybe 2 out of 7 are in a particular region, but not all of them.
Which means its a problem with steam's front end and/or load balancing. Which means they have even less excuse for it if they can't even effectively load the servers and bandwidth they have before errors happen.
Anyways, thats NOT the error message this thread is about.
I just tried clicking install yet again... and it worked. Game is downloading. So everyone try again now. :)

Oh certainly, I agree. But people like SEMMERLING were blaming Futuremark. That's who I meant by "developer". It isn't Futuremark's fault Steam is having issues.

Changing you content servers in your steam options might help.
The content servers are an mirroring service. On schedule an automatism distributing the files to all servers and it can happen, that one server got delayed.

Anyone try deleting clientregistry.blob? Problem is probably client-side as I can download the game just fine while my roommate can't.

I'd agree, if the message was "steam servers too busy." But its not, its about not existing at all on steam. So its not clear who to blame. At the very least, the devs can more easily and quickly complain to valve to fix it (I'm sure they have a more direct support contact). Whereas the support ticket I submitted could take days for valve to respond, and when they do, its likely to be a meaningless response (from past experience dealing with steam support).

I think Valve must have discovered how the Fonzi Smack works, and coded that into clientregistry.blob. I wish I had one for the rest of my computer.

I was having this exact issue, couldn't install this game, or any other game...
First, Exit steam completely.
I went to C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam
And renamed clientregistry.blob to ClientRegistry.blob.old
Started steam, it started updating files... logged back in and installed Unstoppable Gorg no problems.

SAD valve just SAD. Did you guys forget to keep those old fixes for the client blob problems you fixed years ago?

Again, I understand your frustration and am sorry you haven't got to play yet. Believe me, as a member of the dev team, there is nothing I'd love more than the customers actually getting their product, playing it and hopefully enjoying it. :)
But it is clear that the problem is not on our end, since many people have been well able to download the game. Another reason why we couldn't act lightning fast on this, is that last night when this topic rose up the time was 1:20am here in Finland. That means people were sleeping here.
But trust us, we will definitely and gladly do our best to help you guys out with any issues you might have with the game.

Apparently this doesn't fix it for everybody.

Change that to different location and it might work.

Very disappointing to advertise a product, pick up customer's money, but afterwards refuse to deliver the goods.

Even I couldn't log on to steam before I deleted the clientregistry.blob and appupdatestats.blob files in Steam folder and starting Steam again.
There is something wrong with Steam infrastructure at the moment and unfortunately Futuremark cannot do anything about it :(
"Gold master" UG files were on Steam content servers several days prior to launch (anyone who was in Beta can confirm this) and all ready to go. None of these issues are in any way unique to UG - they affect all of Steam at the moment.
So I suggest you open a ticket with Steam support if you can't resolve your issue by doing what I did (close Steam, delete those two files, restart Steam).
Sorry about this, but again... it is out of our hands and believe me, if we could do something, we would.

I can confirm that the files were on the servers well before release. I feel for you guys who can't download the game or even login, but this is completely out of Futuremarks hands.
Valve are aware of the problem and I'm sure working to fix it as quickly as possible: http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?p=28631896#post28631896

Also, another reason to show that is not a problem with Unstoppable Gorg files is because it affects a lot of other games too. It's a general Steam issue, as it have been pointed out earlier in the thread. Not sure everyone reads the whole thread though... some just rush in and blame whoever/whatever they have at hand because of their emotional and rage state. lol

You also need to delete the other (appupdatestats.blob) if you get that.
You may also have to keep trying several times before the Steam client manages to update itself.
(and this is a Steam-issue, not UG issue)

Perhaps this is the right place to ask if this game is coming to other online stores like Gamersgate in the future?
FM_Jarnis
01-20-2012, 09:56 PM
It is possible - I believe other retailers are being discussed with. Do note that Unstoppable Gorg is a Steamworks game so any other store would still be selling a game that activates on Steam.
There is also a retail box in Germany (published by HeadUp Games) that is already out.

Thanks, I feared that. But at least I am able to buy at the British store if I use Gamersgate, so I will be patient and buy it there if possible.

Yep, didn't have all the details before; Gamersgate now also has the game and it is a stand-alone (no Steamworks/Steam achievements) and Gamersgate version is completely DRM-free.
(not that the Steam version has any extra DRM either, it doesn't - but it does have the usual Steam wrapper that every Steam game has)
skedar
01-24-2012, 12:30 PM
Now that it is DRM-free, release a mac and a linux version of the game, and when sales will start to drop, put the game in a Humble Indie Bundle to boost sales. =D
