View Full Version : Enjoying Game but crashes (fixed)

Enjoying the game so far in story mode, up to 'Chapter X - Top Secret' but it keeps coming up with the following error which requires a restart. (Arcade mode unaffected)

Error in:'MenuElements.levelScroller 'buttonControls' is not valid
Press Ok to continue, Cancel to quit.

I've uninstalled through Steam and reinstalled but come up with the same message.

Has anyone else experienced this?

That is a bug, but we are not able to reproduce it here and have heard of no one else having it.
Please note that Chapter X - Top Secret is any chapter that you have not yet unlocked (the level picture is gray and empty). You should not be able to access them at all. Currently if you press play on a locked level it takes you to the latest available level. We will probably fix this though in the coming updates, so that the play button is deactivated on locked levels.

Hello. I am having the same problem as Soulsearcher, the exact same issue. It would be greatly appreciated if you could find the time to fix this please as it really locks out the game entirely for me, i can only use a few towers in arcade mode and i already completed the challenges i have so far.

For what it's worth I have uninstalled the game a few times and reinstalled with the latest version plus deleted the files in

C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Local\Futuremark\Unstoppable Gorg

& am still experiencing the issue.

Are there any other files (i.e. save points, program data) that I should be looking at deleting so I can reinstall a new copy of the game?

I don't mind having to reinstall as a short term solution, but having to reinstall windows etc is a little too much.

If there are some computer details you want me to post / email let me know (if it helps to pinpoint the issue for a future patch).

I have taken the same course of action Soul, i don t think reinstalling the game or reinstalling windows will fix this. I think we need to wait until they patch the game for this particular issue, although give that so far only you and I have reported this particular problem it is rather low on developer list of priorities :(

I haven't completely understood what the problem is. "Chapter X - Top Secret" is a level not yet unlocked. So it can't be played. As I understand it, the bug is that if you try to hit "play" on such a level, there is an error. But even if that is fixed, it doesn't mean that you can play a level that isn't unlocked yet.

The problem is that once I have finished mission 5 of the campaign if I want to move to the next mission the game freezes in awaiting orders mode and the yellow band that should have the name of my next mission has chapter x top secret written on it.

At this point the game is frozen I cannot do anything go back to menu or skip to another mission, the buttons for starting or going back to main menu do not respond, the only thing I can to is altab where I find the following text box Error MenuElements 'Lvl Scroller' 'button Controls' is not valid press ok to continue cancel to quit . If I press either of these another box that has the same text pops up , the only option I have is to shut down the game from task manager or from my taskbar.

Please note that every time I start the game and enter story mode this happens so I am effectively stuck, I cannot enter story mode without getting stuck in that mission loading screen. As stated by Soul, arcade mode and challenge mode seems to not suffer from this problem but there is only so much I can play of those since unlocking other elements in those modes relies on me advancing further in the campaign.

This is pretty much my experience with this issue. I am eagerly awaiting your thoughts on how i could fix this.

Ok, now we see. So a chapter which is supposed to be unlocked doesn't unlock correctly. We will find out why and fix this issue ASAP. We apologize that you are experiencing such a game breaking bug.

We have a new update going out later today (morning PST / Valve Time) and while we haven't been able to duplicate this issue in-house, it contains changes that could fix this issue.

If it doesn't resolve the issue, we could use a copy of your progress.dat file for further debuggin (now found under Steam folder after the Steam Cloud support was added in) - you can email it to info [at] futuremark.com and include a link to this thread so we know what issue it relates to.

Edit: This was supposed to go out Tuesday but looks like it'll go out Wednesday instead. Sorry about that.

You can email them anyway, just let us know in this thread if the update resolved the issue when Steam pushes it live.

Has the patch been applied yet ? I live in Europe and i haven t had any steam updates regarding UG so far.

I am fairly certain it hasn't - there was a bug with the build that was sent to Steam earlier this week so it wasn't deployed live. I know there is a new build candidate but I'm not sure if it is going out today or tomorrow.

Apparantly the upcoming patch is "deep in QA" and due "any day now" (source (http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showpost.php?p=29028747&postcount=17)). Let's hope so, sucks if you guys can't play due to a crash!

So this has dragged on for a couple of weeks now, unlikely to see a patch in the next few days I'm assuming due to the weekend.

Having already tried reinstalling a # of times and it not being successful, are there some registry settings that I can modify / delete to start the game afresh, or am I stuck because the game settings are kept in the steam cloud are basically inaccessible?

Glad our fixes sorted it - some of the issues took a while to sort out and the patch took far too long to materialize (sorry about it) but all is well that ends well.
