Come on. It's a FREE iOS/Android app. Why not let everyone test it. And why put it in the stores. A tease?

Come on.

Come on.

How would you run a beta test on iOS (and Android) with thousands of participants?

It's actually a good idea of valve for an "invite" only test. You never know when thousands of people use the app right away which may cause a lot of problems. They are building up the stress test which I find the right thing to do.

Let them work their way up. This is a new venture for Valve, and things can get weird at larger scales.

... So?
Signing up to a Beta doesn't gaurantee your participation in said beta.
Besides, most of the time when people join a game beta they are just wanting to play rather than bug testing. This seems especially so with Dota 2...
