Unfortunately, BlackBerry's are losing the market and ain't all too good for Apps.
I had a BB and I hated it that there was little app support. Gladly moved to Android though.

I'm using bb9900 with iphone4 tho. I prefer bb.
Ofc there are so many reasons dat I like bb.
Bt I'm gonna love more if I can use the steam-mobile on bb.
I hope steam dev gonna think bout support BB.

Blackberry devices are mostly aimed at business clients, majority of which haven't even heard of Steam.
Nothing wrong with having a BB version, but i would prefer dev time to be spent on more suitable mobile OS platforms such as Windows phones.
And yeah, RIM ain't doing so well, every month things are looking worse and worse for them (failure of new handsets to deliver, failure to take up significant market with the tablet, and now the two heads of the company are leaving). Combined with the massive systems failure suffered by RIM few months back, there are massive doubts about Blackberry survival.

BB is a dead platform at this point. They're basically running the company to sell it to someone at this point. Everyone knows this so why bother to develop an app for a product that most likely will not exist very soon.
If the Torch/Playbook had actually been released properly then they might not be in this position. At this point only corporate sales and BBM is even keeping BB on life support.

I'd highly suggest an android. They're cheaper and run better.
But yeah. I know this isn't that helpful, but I would suggest getting something other than a blackberry. I used to use a blackberry and it was awful (the only plus side was having touch feedback since it had a real keyboard. I wish more androids did). Sprint gave me a low-price upgrade from that to an Android and I haven't looked back.

As previously said, sorry BB users but RIM is going down the toilet so to speak. It would be a waste of time for Valve to focus on that mobile OS as the number of Steam users that own an iOS/Android/WP7 device greatly outnumber the very small, fractional market share of BB users that actually KNOW of Steam.
Not trying to knock on BB users, it's just the sad, simple truth.

I jumped off that boat before it tanked.... Stocks took another hit a couple days ago.
On topic though. I'm sure they will make Blackberry and Win phone7 apps one day. My guess is that Android and iOS probably have a larger market share so they will probably hit a larger audience first.
Not too much point. (http://www.marco.org/2012/01/22/rim-ceos-stepping-down)

I am an avid Blackberry fan, and when I first heard about Steam Mobile, I was livid when I saw that there wasn't any Steam for Blackberries. So, I want to know, when, if ever, is Steam going to be released for Blackberries? Or are Blackberries simply too old, un-fun, and obsolete to have Steam?

Blackberries are aimed at business users, not ideally the target market valve is appealing to, sadly its unlikely that they will make a version for the blackberry :)

Yeah I'm not seeing that either. UNLESS! They want to own the BB spectrum to provide free 3G or whatever services to their Kindle/Fire/etc. That's the only probable scenario I can see for Amazon to want it.
When BB goes under it'll be a race to see who can buy up the spectrum they own as fast as possible.

Amazon offered to buy RIM when the stocks took that huge hit at the start of the month. I dont know what their reasoning was, but you can't deny the potential blackberry has. To my knowledge there isnt another phone on the market that handles e-mails as well as a bb does. I hadn't logged into my hotmail in almost a year because of my blackberrys direct connection to it. Now that I have my galaxy nexus I have to log into it to at least delete inbox now and then.

RIM aren't a carrier, only mobile carriers own spectrum. BB data just goes over your mobile operator's network. There's gotta be something else

So many people hating on BB for no reason, BB is still growing in actual numbers but Android and IOS are growing much quicker which is why % wise BB is losing market share. Which is also logical as BB originally isn't aimed at the massive consumer market but the business market.
Personally I would love to see support for BB (Playbook on the OS 2.0?) as there many (young) people who have a BB and are Steam users.

Oops my bad I thought they owned their own spectrum. In that case unless there are some weird patents hiding in RIM's portfolio that might help Amazon's Cloud based computing initiative, it's hard to see what they'd want? Maybe the handset division to help with future Kindle devices, though to be honest Amazon seems to be making pretty good stuff already.

Very few are hating on BB, the main point here is that a lot more Steam users would prefer Valve uses their time to expand Steam Mobile onto Windows 7 platform.
Nothing wrong with having more options, issue is always prioritising.
Regarding BB growth, i don't know about the entire market, but since i work in managed IT services, part of my job is setting up work email accounts for business users. More and more of our customers are switching from BB to iPhones.

Very upset there's no Blackberry app, only just got a new upgrade to the most recent torch. Kinda lame, cause I've been waiting for years for a Steam mobile application and to find out it doesn't support BB, well, was just very disappointed :(
Anyone know if there is Blackberry compatibility works in the pipeline?
By this children, I mean actual evidence to the question above, not a reply about how ♥♥♥♥ Blackberrys are or how terrible the OS is for developers, etc.

This is complete garbage.
3-4 years ago, yes, only businessmen needed/had BlackBerry's.
Nowadays, kids either have iPhones or BlackBerry's.
Mostly BlackBerry for BBM, believe it or not, it is an integral part of our society these days. Up here in Toronto, Canada, it has literally become customary to ask a new friend for their BBM pin after meeting them.
I'm going to go ahead and make a general statement here that 60-75% of my friends have BlackBerry's.
If you don't believe me, ask my 240 BBM Contacts that I converse with on a regular basis.

TL;DR: Lot's of people have BlackBerry, Steam please platform it to BlackBerry so I'm not bored in class anymore.

The problem isn't the current user base it's the FUTURE base. Considering the Torch and Playbook's massive failures, BB is basically dead. The new CEO is trying to sell the company. The only thing floating them now is corporate customers. Yes BBM is popular. But it's bad when the ONLY thing about your product that anyone is talking about is basically an IM product.
Unless RIM comes out with some kind of killer device this year, there's no point in developing for the BB platform which traditionally was pretty horrible anyway in terms of developing apps for it.

Steam is trying to reach out to the greater public. BB is a dying platform. If BB gets their act together and releases a phone that is both fast and easy to use, there is a slight chance that BB will get an app. Right now, there is more hope in WP7

I dunno, it says "RIM claims". If it was CarphoneWarehouse or sales data from operator stores, it would be trustworthy. But RIM saying their phones are best anything is something worth questioning.

As much as I hate to admit it, the Blackberry is dying. The best part about them isn't a thriving app community (It took me days just to find a Tetris knock-off for my Torch) like the iPhone's community, the Blackberry is best for businesses and they reportedly are VERY (http://us.blackberry.com/ataglance/security/features.jsp) secure.

BB is most faithful to the cell-phone what it really needs to be.
I can't really say that lower models of bb like bb9780,9700,9000,etc are good enough for now.
but, i've changed my mind since i started to use BB9900. as i said on another reply tho.
I am using bb9900 with iphone. but.. mostly im playing only games with iphone. no offense to iphone.

Blackberry SUPPORT!
Most of the people here hatin' on blackberry's are fanboi's. Learn some facts before you talk ♥♥♥♥.
Example.
Lemonade is selling in a city making 1000$ this year.
Lets say next year a big lemonade company moves in and they are making 2000$
The small company then moves up to a profit of 1500$.
Essentially this is what people are doing to RIM, oh apple sold so much more. But in the truth of things RIM is as big as it has ever been.
Yes, blackberry's are aimed as much towards entertainment, (but are slowly getting there).
Browser wise, the BBOS7 browser is on par with every other browser for mobile out there. For compression of data, blackberry's do it the best meaning that for every 1 iPhone data usage on a network, 3 blackberry users can be supported for the same data for the same usage.
RIM is not dying, sure a few mishaps here and there. But iPhone is for children who want to play games.
Something recently with iPhone is that applications that you install on your phone can take and store you contact information without telling you.
Remember the location tracking way back when on iPhone when it made a road map of where you went?
No, people don't think that way, they flock to the "Better" company in their eyes and ignore anything that they do wrong, but one something happens to the company they "hate" they blow it out of proportion.
Another thing to add is all the people who are saying they hate their blackberry's they haven't tried out the new phones which are actually geared toward the general consumer.
You never hear of the awesomeness of someones item unless its to put down another items. Also bad news travels faster than good.
I for one have had nothing but a good experience with RIM and have never thought about buying a new phone other then BlackBerry. I also am a proud owner of a PlayBook.
Call me an unbias bias Hammer Legion Member(why change my words?). I stay behind what I have good experiences with, why change a good thing?

why change a good thing?
I typically wouldn't, but in this case there is something far better available so it would make sense to upgrade.
And it has nothing to do with this "fanboi" nonsense you talk about. If anybody is one I say it's those people still clinging to outdated phones.
