View Full Version : [Bug] "Unable to connect to Steam"

"Unable to connect to Steam. Please make sure you have valid internet connection."
I have app, and access on my account, and yet this error keeps popping for 2 days now on my Nexus One. Any ideas? I tried reinstalling the app, changing password. I am connecting via my home WiFi and no other app has issues like this.

Here are some troubleshooting steps you could use to narrow down the problem:
Can you sign in via your cellular 3G/4G network?
Does your wifi network require proxy configuration?
Over your connection can you navigate to this address in your default mobile browser:
https://api.steampowered.com/ISteamWebAPIUtil/GetServerInfo/v0001 ?
Do you get any certificate warnings navigating to the address above?

I can't sign in via 3G/4G.
No proxy required.
When i go over to that link it starts download <Untitled> api.steampowered.com and it never initiates download. Left it hanging for 2 hours.
No certificate warnings.

Same issue. HTC desire HD. steam app is only having problems with 3g or H connection. Wifi works fine.

I'm actually having similar issues, but this is weird:
I noticed that when I opened the app the first time in a while (restarted my phone a few times, can manually close the app processes and RAM), it would automatically sign me in, supposedly. well, this time, even though I could be "signed in", see which friends are online, the status bar on my Android device keeps saying "Restarting" and shows the Steam logo in the "red" hue, so I know it's having connection problems.
So, I decided to sign out/sign in. same result. Signed out again to try it again, and now I can't sign in.
A) it tells me I am using an invalid password. I've not changed my password, and the last second I used it, it worked and was valid.
B) then it prompts me to use a Steam Guard code. as if I had a different device (not!)
C) I got the same Steam Guard code in my inbox 3 times, for each time I tried getting back in and it prompts me for the code in the same steps above.
I am in a 2-3 bar 4G connection (2-3 EDGE connection also works in generally every app, especially Steam mobile, but obviously it's mediocre), where 3 bars is fast enough (if I'm in an area with 4 bars, that's the best), otherwise 2 bars works well in the minimum scale, but anyway, it should work. I haven't tested wifi yet.
I also know the connection is there, because, how else could it verify I have the right password the first time I got in, and then every successive time it says it's wrong (when it's supposed to be right), and I get emails for the SG code, so I know there's communication going on.

Because both are connecting using servers for Steam PC version.
You should be able to login back now.

yes, it works now.
one pet peeve: I'm required to re-log in with an emailed SG code if I log out (not shutting the app down manually through task manager). I realize, the problem may stem because it can't verify my device individually. that could easily be remedied through a file cache system somehow.

I have the same problem. When I open that link Vitaliy posted, it gives me option to download a file.

actually, now as I'm checking, the "Reconnecting" issue is showing up again.
steam infrastructure should be fine though. the downtime thread doesn't indicate there's a system-wide problem, except that they're investigating since this morning. hmm...

Still waiting on this ive just uninstaled the app to stop it sucking my power witch is another proplem but not mine right now.
Still waiting on a fix come on valve at least try and help us
