View Full Version : Can you walk?

I know it's a strange question, but I find it infuriating that in some RPG's you cannot walk while exploring or wandering inside towns/cities.

I noticed in the demo I could not walk, but I've had others tell me they could.

So, can you walk...Or are you always awkwardly sprinting?

I used a 360 controller, and walking was the default movement speed. Had to hold A to sprint.

Default movement speed is run. I'd assume with an analogue controller you're able to control how fast you move, from walk to run.

Sprint is barely faster than run, at least in the demo.

in some of the videos shown on the website the character walks but I don't know how to do it.

Can't walk with a mouse + keyboard and no remapping in the demo but it will be in the full game.

With the 360 controller, to walk, you barely move the left analog. To run, you push it all the way. With sprint I like to turn it into a toggle, instead of leaving it as a hold.

Yeah, seriously. Toggle sprint is nice to see. Holding shift or ctrl for 90% of the game gets really dull.

But I'm not playing on a piece of ♥♥♥♥ Xbox controller. I play on PC so I use my Mouse + Keyboard. Is there a key I can press(or map when the full game comes out) to allow me to toggle walk and run?

Cry some moar.

Gamepads have been used on the PC for decades. I played games with a Gravis Pad in the early 90's.

KoA is a console port, and was obviously designed around using a controller.

No idea about the walk and run toggle, as the game isn't out yet.

I use an Xbox controller while I play on the PC. Only games I use keyboard and mouse for are games that do not support gamepads.

No, not really.

So there is no way, or button, to walk unless you use a 360 Controller..?

Well then, I won't be purchasing this game.

Not in the demo, no. There might be a feature that allows you to in the game, just ask after the game comes out feburary 7th.

You can't walk so you don't want to buy the game. Is this one of those situations where you are just looking for a reason not to buy a game?

PC technology is too insufficient for the developer to create an entirely separate keybind and function field for walking.

No I just honestly cannot stand a game where you cannot walk. Especially an RPG. It ruined Alpha Protocol for me and would most likely ruin Reckoning for me.
For instance, when I'm in a city, town, building in Skyrim..I always walk...It's just a something with immersion, looks stupid to awkwardly run around all the time.

I hope this is sarcasm.

There is no walk with a gamepad either.

If walking is that important to you, get a gamepad.

You're wrong. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MS8xPzkWN6A)

It's still processing, since I just redownloaded, installed, played, recorded, and uploaded this in the last 20 minutes...

By the way, I walked in Alpha Protocol just fine, too. With my X360 controller, of course. (http://cache.ohinternet.com/images/7/7c/Strutting_leo.jpg)

I don't think so. Especially considering it doesn't think KoA is a console port, even though walking is only possible with a controller...

I think I'll pass. Stick to games that function with a mouse and keyboard.

Have fun. But you're limiting yourself for no real reason. Just as some genres work best with a keyboard and mouse, some work best with a controller.

Platformers? Controller.
Third-person action? (KoA, Dungeon Siege 3, Alpha Protocol, Just Cause series, and both Batman games) Controller.
First-person shooters and strategy games? Keyboard and mouse.

In case you're wondering, analog sticks work better for movement than digital keys. With keys, it's either on or off. That's it. With analog sticks, you have a true range of motion.

Oh, my gosh. You can't walk, it's a console port. Even though there is piles of evidence to contradict that.

Platformers - Works fine on PC. Dustforce was designed for Mouse+KB and does significantly better than gamepads. However, most platformers work fine.

Third Person - What? What makes a gamepad so much better? Oh, nothing.

You have yet to actually refute anything I've said. You post stupid nonsense with no proof, just like a woman.

I've PROVEN that you can walk with a controller. You can't walk with a keyboard and mouse. The game freaks out on AMD video cards, which constitute a majority of PCs capable of playing the game. It's a freaking console port, and you're in some weird state of denial and post stupid sarcastic nonsense instead of actually trying to prove otherwise. Because you can't. It really IS a console port. I've chosen to embrace it and play with a controller. I have no idea what your issue is.

There are plenty of other threads I've proven my point (http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2511027). Also using the Demo in your argument, tsk tsk. You don't understand what a console port is so this argument will be moot in the end.

Let's just stick to the OP. Obviously he wants to walk, you can't with Mouse+KB. Maybe it will make it into the final build at launch. Just wait and see OP. The best place to ask at Launch would be on their forums.

When a game is designed from the ground-up with console limitations and console controls, and then ported to the PC with the same limitations and rudimentary mouse and keyboard controls that don't have full functionality, it's a console port.

That's fine for me. Arkham City is also a console port. And it's an awesome game. Same with Oblivion, Skyrim, Just Cause 2, GTA IV, Borderlands, Saints Row 2, and Prototype. All awesome, all console ports with console limitations and design imposed on development and execution.

The game had it's own development team for PC. Again, it wasn't a port. You can keep claiming their is some mythical console limitation other than graphic fidelity but you'll just be wrong, over and over. Also Gamepad and Mouse+KB controls are incredibly different. Which was confirmed in the thread I linked via source. You have no argument.. you just want to use the console port word for the sake of using it.

That's ok, it appears a lot of people think every game should be developed for every game player.

I on the other hand think you win some you lose some.

Best of luck on finding the next game that fits inside your presumably extremely critical list of small issues that are hilariously overblown into "Will not buy" statements.

I heard you can't even jump in KoA, sure the game world has been consciously designed around this design decision but ♥♥♥♥ that, I have complaining to do.

Well I wasn't hugely fond of Reckoning, the childish cartoon style really turned me off, but I figured it could be fun, so I thought...If I can walk, I may buy it down the road. But since it seems you cannot, I'll pass for now.

It's a fantasy RPG, get over it. I don't want you to say 'So is Skyrim!'. What is flashy about Skyrim other than a random dragon or two? Skyrim is BORING, KoA's 'cartoonishness' makes it better since it a fantasy rpg.

I think you're just butt hurt KoA blows Skyrim out of the water, as well as trolling about 'oh noes I can't walk QQ'. The only reason Skyrim has legions upon legions of fans is because it has tons of mods, so it doesn't look like it just came out of a basement.

No...It's just that I prefer a serious RPG instead of a childish cartoon RPG.

Skyrim has legions upon legions of fans because it is one of the best RPGs of all time and is the best RPG. The only thing I see in Reckoning is a limited open world, ugly cartoon graphical style and standard generic fantasy combat.

This thread wasn't made to hate on Reckoning or compare it to Skyrim, I just wanted to know if you could walk.

The Witcher had the same problem, and then someone wrote a little 3K routine that put a walk option in, that made all the difference, and I agree that running around in an Inn/shop/room, bashing into people and objects is so unimmersive!

So here's hoping for someone doing that same little fix for KoAR so you can have a walk key!

Jumping means a true open world like Oblivion or Skyrim. No fences at all. So people complaining about no j7umping are really complaining it's not a truly open world.

As to sitting, I doubt anyone would worry about no sitting, even though it's in Oblivion and Skyrim.
