stuck at the end of chapter 1 -- unsure if bug

I'm on the "Creatures of the Mounds" objective of chapter 1 but I can't interact with the giant monster dude guarding the fortress in East Mercia. Mouse over shows the "red circle w/ diagonal line" cursor, and right click doesn't work. I can't attack him and he doesn't want to attack me so it looks like I'm stuck. Bug, or am I missing something here?

Actually, I started a new campaign and it's not a problem this time around.

I think the bug was from loading a saved game that I started in the demo version. Let me you still want the save and I will upload it.
