Being a big Toki Tori fan I'd like to see more custom Toki Tori levels beeing made So I've started an unofficial competition on Januari 26th to kickstart more custom level designing.

I've learned that some of you would be more motivated to start level designing If they could win a copy of Toki Tori 2 and a have more time to submit their levels. So starting from today the prizes and closing date are changed!

1st Prize:
A free copy of Toki Tori 2 as soon as it becomes available this spring and a free copy of the Two Tribes Pack !

2nd to 4th Prizes:
A free copy of the Two Tribes Pack !

First three submitters before februari 21st:
A Free 50% OFF Valve Steam Coupon (valid until March 1st)

closing date:
March 1st 9 AM (GMT)

So what do you have to do for this competition ?

Make a fun and/or challenging custom Toki Tori level
upload it onto a public server (like mediafire.com)
post the link to your level in the Toki Tori level sharing! (http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1746538) thread before the closing date.

Levels submitted must be originals and may not be altered versions of existing levels. Also quick and dirty levels put together just to gain a coupon are not alowed. You may submit as many levels as you want.

So all there is to say now is, go start the level editor and have fun designing those levels !

I might have a go at this!
I've only had a brief prod with the editor before and I'm far from a creative genius... So if I do enter something it won't be fun nor challenging. But oh well. We'll see! :)

It's really great that you make the prize even bigger, you are the biggest TT fan I know :)
I see the date to enter a level has been moved too, but if I have time, I will try to make a level tomorrow.
I hope lots of other people will participate, too bad I don't know lots of people who have the game so I can encourage them to participate.

That's the spirit! :D

Don't be put back by thinking you have to be a creative genius. You can just start playing around with the editor a bit and try out a view basic puzzles you already know to get familiar with the editor. You will get an idea for a puzzle soon and you will be working on it before you know it :)

Use basic tiles first to design and test your level. Once your puzzle mechanics work you can dress up the level as much as you want. A good practice is start drawing stairs and the main platforms on the stairs layer. To get an idea on how levels are made up try opening some of the custom levels from the database (http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2049412)

I also recommend to use my custom level launcher (http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?h39xfgb19se6d0o)(hehe self advertising :) ) just download it put somewhere on your harddrive and execute it. You can use it to start the editor, select a level to edit or play more easy.

Here's a tutoial (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MIFboNxNyC4) on how to install and use the launcher.

Damn, BB, you know I only make quick and dirty levels :(

Then I wonder why it took so long for you to submit a level ;) Looks like your quick and dirty level does qualify, your in for the Competition :)

Currently there are five levels that have entered the competition. Remember you are allowed to submit as many levels as you want. Submitting more levels will increase the change to win those prizes.

Have you not played with the Toki Tori Editor yet? But you would like to? Then go ahead and pick it up. There's still plenty of time left to learn your way around the editor and design a level. You have until March 1st 9 AM(GMT)

Check out this video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MIFboNxNyC4) on how you can use the Launcher to make and play custom levels easier.

Great job with the launcher program, I love it!

Can you an add a setting to take jpeg level images instead of bitmaps though? jpegs would look just as good while taking up a lot less space.

Sorry for the huge .bmp files.
I just blindly followed Blinky's example without thinking if the launcher could read other formats too.

Competition is now closed

It's march 1st and the competition is now closed. This doesn't mean you should stop desiging levels ofcourse! :) They only will not take part of the competiton :)

I must say it was a very successfull competition, not only where there a total of 16 levels been submitted by various designers, but the level sharing thread has had over 4000 reads during the competition too. So I can only say that there is a lot of interest in custom Toki Tori levels :) and for those who didn't manage to get their levels done in time or who had difficulties mastering the level editor, I hope we will see your levels in the near future.

I want to thank all participants for desigining and submitting their levels. In the next days, I will review all levels and announce the winner. So stay tuned.

Competition Result:

First of all I would like to thank all the level designers for their work on making those great custom Toki Tori levels and Two Tribes for supporting this unofficial competition by offering those awesome Two Tribes Packs.

From all the levels that where submitted there is one that really stood out from the rest and that level is Box Paradox made by G. Lecter.

He wins this competition for his level with a perfectly chosen title. A nice clean level with a good overview that looks deceivingly simple at first, but then you realize soon that it is quite the opposite. It is also one of those levels you keep turning back to after you've given up on it because you thought you've tried everything. Well Done G. Lecter! you will get your Toki Tori 2 code as soon as it's out and your Two tribes Pack code will be PMed to you asap.

The other levels submitted are also great levels and tended to get more complex after each new submission. From these levels we have the following runners up:

Daniel199516 for his level Oceanic Big,
Dark Cyanide for his level Quick and Dirty and
Moldy_Tomato for his level Fall Festival.

Congratulations guys! I will PM your Two Tribes Pack codes asap.

congratulations to the winners!!

in case anyone is wondering, you should get an extra gift copy of any of the games in the Two Tribes Pack that you already own if you redeem it. I got it just for EDGE during the Christmas sale and received an extra copy of Toki Tori & RUSH.

Congratulations everyone :)

Box Paradox is a good winner, it's one of the levels I did play and I must say it's a lot harder than it looks, I think it's a great and fun level.
I also played the other levels that won, quick & dirty was a fun, good looking level and fall festival was very original :)

Funny that the levels that came in the beginning of the competition won btw :p
And thanks a lot BlinkyBlink, for organising this fun competition :) I hope the custom levels of Toki Tori get a lot more attention now.

Wooo thank you!! :D So much time spent on making huge maps and it turns out that a small map made in a day becomes everyone's favourite... what a paradox! :p

Thanks BB for organizing the competition, and congrats to everyone else too! I completely agree with the other favourites (although Depth Charges, which I haven't played yet, looks very promising too). Let's hope the mapping spirit not to vanish now! ;)

That's not without out reason. The later levels are great too but their complexity may be a bit too much for the Average Toki Tori player :)

Wooo thank you!! :D So much time spent on making huge maps and it turns out that a small map made in a day becomes everyone's favourite... what a paradox! :p

Well, you know what to do now ;)

I hope the increased interest will hold on and we will get more Toki Tori fans into playing and making custom levels.

To the runners-up: I've yet to recieve the additional Two Tribes Packs codes. I'll PM then as soon as I've recieved them.
