The Book Of Unwritten Tales and as well its newer prequel The Critter Chronicles (Die Vieh Chroniken) are absolutely AWESOME adventure games!

I own both as retail version but still would buy it for my Steam collection immediately!

Yes, I have to maintain a separate wishlist (separate from Steam, that is) to remind me I must pickup this game someday from the website.

But why do we have to beg for this?

According to Marco Rosenberg (King-Art) they were rejected once before but are planning on another attempt to be placed in the Steam library this spring.

"We tried to get on Steam a few months ago, but they rejected us. Probably due to the high amount of AAA-titles being released at that time. We will however contact Steam again and call on the great reviews we received by the gaming press and players."

It looks like a nice point and click adventure with great artwork and has a lot of positive reviews so far. It's been available on Gamersgate for several months now.

Kind of ridiculous that a game this high quality would get turned down on Steam. I really don't understand the criteria Value uses to decide what makes the cut and what doesn't.

I could find the "The Book Of Unwritten Tales" at GamersGate but not the "The Critter Chronicles".....
Actually I coudn't find "The Critter Chronicles" for sale anywhere.
"The Book Of Unwritten Tales" seemed cheapest at Amazon (in Europe)...

I've had this game on my wishlist on Gamersgate for a while now. Wouldn't mind picking it up on Gamersgate but not until I've finished some of my backlog. Hoping it will end up on Steam in the meantime.

I'd also love to see this game on Steam. And I would ALSO like it if some developer would reveal the reason for the rejection sometime.

Surely Valve gives them a reason for the refusal? Or is that always part of an NDA or something?

Actually, they don't always give a reason. The developer of critically acclaimed Mutant Mudds just went public with his rejection and was reportedly told simply "Steam is not a good fit for distribution" for his game. No other explanation, no constructive criticism, no bug fix requests, just 'No Thanks.' Check out this link if you want to know more: http://www.indiegamemag.com/mutant-mudds-steam-rejection/

I get it, Valve wants to be choosy with what they release. They are in a good place with Steam and are invested in keeping quality hight, but they better be careful. EA's Origin might start exploiting this chink in Steam's armor, start accepting all the great game's Valve seems to be turning down thus gaining the foothold EA is desperately trying to carve out. It could actually give gamer's a real reason to use EA's service.
