Firstly GREAT game. was playing this a bit on my old system and just got myself a better system. This is where my issues arose.
my current system specs are as follows:
AMD FX-4100 quad core black edition
Nvidia Gforce GT 520 (1g dedicated memory)
8gig system memory
OS is Win7 Home Premium 64bit

I click play and get the initial screen asking for the resolution to play in and the language. Press start and get a loading graphic but after a moment it gives me a windows error saying that the application has crashed. it attempts to find a solution but never does.
I have tried removing the local files and re-installing, restarting windows after an initial launch, verifying the local cache, Verified .net installation and for good measure repaired it, directly launching (ShippingPC-ChopGame.exe), and also editing the line (bInitializeShadersOnDemand) from False to True.
none of these suggestions has worked for me.
below is the error message that i was able to find in the event viewer:

I was about to post this.
I have the same problem. The game works perfectly on my laptop(Core 2 Duo), Win 7 64 bit. But when I try on desktop(i7, 3Ghz) with GTX 570, Win 7 64 bit, it crashes right after resolution screen with error ShippingPC-Chopgame.exe stopped working.
I tried every solution posted on this forum, including the one which involves editing of .ini file. None of them works. btw I am using gtx 570 with latest 295 beta drivers.

It's been frustrating.
I have, since original post, even tried campatability modes. went with one suggested by windows (winXP SP2) and after that resulted in the same error tried everything else on the list. All with the same results. I have even tried making this run as administrator that also did not work.
I am hoping that this is a simple thing that is being overlooked but so far I think most of the simple things have been looked at.

Yes I am having the same trouble, I also tried editing the ini file, no luck. Cache is good, .net is installed, all no good :(

Any of the developers from "inXile Entertainment" reading this thread?

Maybe we are overlooking something. I am getting the same error on both of my computers, very different HW setups, but both have very fresh installs of windows. Maybe something is supposed to be installed that we are taking for granted.

just to see if it would work I re-installed windows 7 x64 on my laptop
AMD Athlon II X2 m300
AMD mobility Radeon HD 4200
4g system memory

the only drivers i installed after windows were the video card drivers from AMD site. Oddly Choplifter worked. After seeing that the title indeed worked I ventured further by updating windows itself to current. Title still worked after the upgrades.

I'm happy that it was able to run on the laptop but sure wish I could figure out what the hold-up is on my desktop. Laptop suffers from normal (you-really-shouldnt-be-playing-games-on-me) stuttering and such during play.

I might be on to something here, TheLeopard, can you tell me what video card is in your desktop, and what driver version you are running?

Well, never mind, I thought it might have something to do with the new 295 nvidia drivers, but I removed them all and disabled my nvidia. Using only the sandy bridge integrated graphics, easily meets the game requirements, I am still getting the same error.

i had thought about vid driver maybe being issue also but if i am not mistaking i have seen the same issue arising on both sides of the radeon/nvidia fence. sad but nice to know that we can take out intel chip video out of equation also.

Let me know if you get it going Leopard. At this point I guess I will just try to get a refund, witch I am sure I will fail. Just seems odd it does not work on either of my systems.

so far still no luck on my main system. even installed Unreal Development Kit to see if that 'might' install a needed whatever. still no luck there yet. works fine on laptop so far 'cept it glitches quite a bit due to the laptop not really being made to play games.

so far this is the only title that has given me issues on my computer. 457 games on my account and this is the only one giving me any frustrations so far. It's a great game and i love playing it. just wish it ran on the the computer that I want it to run on.

Same here, got a crash after config screen. -_-
And yes, got the min specs, newest drivers etc. pp
I've also tried to edit the gameengine.ini, as written in an other thread,
but nothing ..
And yes, this games is the only one with problems on my pc -_-
Thanks

OK, Problem solved:

I've had the latest nvidia beta driver installed, including physX driver.
I've downloaded the latest nonBeta physX driver from nvidia.com, start
the installation and removed the installed physX Version ... and the game
NOW STARTS oO

I also confirm that uninstalling Physx beta drivers and reinstalling stable version does solve my problem. Thanks a lot. +rep.

Extra confirm! All I did was remove the Phyx software from add/remove and it works great! Woot!

Sorry for the lack of response guys. I'm glad you got it working by uninstalling the PhysX beta drivers.

Just out of curiosity, do any of you have the DLC? There are some people who are crashing after their purchase. I'm hoping the same PhysX fix will help them as well.

I can conform that the removal of PhysX also works on the DLC. Is a fix for this in the pipe line?

Great! I'm glad that works.

We're not exactly sure why this is happening at the moment, but we'll be trying to resolve it and hopefully get out a patch.

Thanks for verifying the fix :)

i re-installed Nvidia drivers 285.62 WITH the physX. Game runs properly with that installed. Seems like the issue is coming from something within the 295.51 BETA version.

hope this helps track down the issue.

I just started having a problem on bootup of the game. I get as far as pick my res etc etc and then I get the choplifter exe error and back to windows. I was using an i7(3.40) 8gb (ddr3) and an ati 6450 1gb ddr3 and the game ran fine, last week I upgraded my GFX card to a gtx550 TI (ddr3 1gb) and now I get this problem, I also chaneged monitor so my res became higher but i even tried it on the same res as before and had the same issue, noticed someone mentioned an issue with the beta driver but im not using that. Im sure its probably something simple ive missed somehwree along the way.

I can see the devs are reading posts so just wanted to say that as you can see from my set up i love modern gaming but when i heard about choplifter hd I knew I had to have it and wasnt disapointed, hats off to you on reinventing one of the reasons I became a gamer in the first place.

@Riki2606 try going into add remove programs. scroll down to the Nvidia PhysX entry and uninstall that.
If after removing that entry the game works, then that was the cause. If not, then at least you made a checkmark on the 'this was not causing it' list.
also ensure you are using version 285.62 of the Nvidia drivers and not 295.51 (that is the version which has something causing issues at the moment.)

the way to check this is to open the Nvidia Control Panel > Help > System Information

in the lower right information window you should see
Driver Version:
DirectX Support:

etc ...
top one is the one you will want to be checking.

Hi guys! I came back today to read up on the issue and the NVidia Beta drivers are most likely the cause (im running 295.51), except i cannot uninstall to previous version because the new driver has fixed my lingering Battlefield 3 issues which plagued me for the longest time. Im hoping the developers might get a small patch out or NVidia releases a Stable version that has optimizations for Choplifter HD. ...Will continue to follow the posts.. Thank you for your attention everyone. Nik

PS. - Looks like my newly purchased Choplifter HD DLC will have to wait...

i found something new that may be the root of the problem.

check out the thread here (http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2523680). posted by a developer so I am assuming the link to be valid and clean. I have not tried the fix since I rolled back my drivers to the latest Stable release.

found this on the SOL: Exodus steam forum.
Seems the issue is stemming from Nvidia and their latest PhysX. First post has a link to fix the PhysX portion without needing to roll back the video drivers.

hope this helps some folks out.

The newest Nvidia BETA driver works great with the NEW physx software.. I tested it this morning and played fine,, IT was released yesterday .

64 bit users http://www.geforce.com/Drivers/Results/41694

32 bit http://www.geforce.com/Drivers/Results/41697

On install click CUSTOM install and do a clean install.
