despite all the complaints i see on this forum, this is a pretty solid title. it delivers everything you would have wanted out of an MK arcade collection for less than $10

my only real complaint is you practically need a 360 controller to play this game properly. otherwise this pretty much satisfies my nostalgia for MK games.

and nay to those of you complaining about the difficulty. you're just sore because you suck. ;)

How about the lack of 2 players being able to play locally?
That's what holds me on buying this game.

I like it too. Though it made me realize how awful I am at fighting games, it is quite fun.

Yeah it is! Shame i suck at fighting games :-( I like to play the game but losing 90% of time is not fun. I like when i play with a guy the same skill as mine, if there was more player playing this it would be possible but now i just happy to play with anybody

All I want is the ability to remap the movement keys to WASD. Aside from that it's fantastic.

Playing a fighting game with a keyboard=lol. No offense but you'd still get wrecked by people using a pad. In no way can keyboard commands ever be as fast as a pad or stick in a fighting game.

using 2 fingers to hit arrow keys isn't faster than using one thumb?

You'd be surprised. I've seen what people can do on Street Fighter 4 when playing just on the keyboard. Given a bit of practice, a proper layout and a decent keyboard, keyboard controls can be just as effective as any joypad.

What? This game has local 2 player? What are you talking about?

To point:

Yes, this game is awesome, I don't find much things to complain about.
Should be "game of the year 2012".

Yeah, it's just you and a couple of die-hard fanboys that could probably defend Special Forces.
I find it to be especially glaring, how bad the port is I mean, when you remember that they've been released on PC a few times before, each without most of the current bugs. Hell, you're better off just sticking with an emulator.

I love it, was so happy to see it on steam. I have tried all sorts of other ways to play MK 1,2 and ultimate, mame, snes and so forth, but this has been completely hassle free for me and now I can find others to play with when I choose.

What a load of bull. Keyboard or pad, it doesn't matter. Only skill does.

Sorry for stating fact man. I've been playing fighting games since SF1. and a keyboard will simply never compete on a competitive level with a gamepad or arcade stick. It's like the keyboard+mouse vs control pad in a FPS. The keyboard and mouse will always be more accurate in the hands of equally skilled players.

Same with fighting games. In the hands of equally skilled players a keyboard will never compete with a control pad/fight stick. I'm not being an ♥♥♥ here, but there's no way in hell your fingers can do the motions as fast as a control stick.

It depends on the player, their experience using a keyboard and what type of keyboard he has. I have been beaten so easily by others using a keyboard. I consider myself to be above average at umk3 and I use a 360 pad, but I could barely do any damage to some of them. Arcade sticks are the best controllers to use, but the controller does not make a good fighter, it depends on their skill playing the game and using the controller.

in MK: gamepad<keyboard<arcade stick
name one thing that a keyboard does worse in a fighting game than a gamepad, I dare you. many of MAME players use keyboard and they are beast.
on a gamepad you are limited to ONE thumb for FOUR buttons.
Buttons on arcade make you use all of your fingers for punches and kicks, which is better than a gamepad because of faster input, as every finger is responsible for a certain command.

what other input device allows you to use all your fingers? oh right, a keyboard!

now this only applies to MK as it has more or less basic directional input commands and you need absolute precision with the directions, which arrow keys or WASD provide, and they do it way better than the piece of crap xbox d-pad. sony d-pads are great, but again, one thumb against 3 fingers.

a game like Tekken you could never play competitively with a keyboard as it requires mad directional inputs which are a torture to do with just 4 directional keys, hence Tekken players without arcade sticks use the analog stick on their gamepads.

Street Fighter is debatable in this case, but MK games definitely control better with a keyboard. the fact that you've played fighting games since SF1 (which sucked major balls btw, no wonder the series got popular only with the sequel) doesn't mean you suddenly know facts about what MK controls better with. it just says you can't control it with a keyboard or never tried to. no offense here

It's not a fact. One of the best competitive MK players plays on a keyboard. He goes by the name AC1984. Here's a vid:

Mortal Kombat doesn't have any Capcom style Grappler characters or charge characters. The way Mortal Kombats controls, move inputs and gameplay complement the keyboard perfectly. I can't play MK on a pad or with a stick, it doesn't feel right at all, the keyboard feels just perfect. Never had any trouble beating anyone of equal skill who uses a pad or stick.

to get this thread back on track yes this game is freaking awesome...

haven't had this much fun in a fighter in a good long while, tried street fighter 4 awhile after it had been out and everyone was super leet didn't have a bloody chance against 9/10's of them

this game however it just feels right, if you loved it back in the day don't hesitate it grab it up now the fun still remains...

especially if you're the competitave type like me, though keep your mic off so you don't say things you'll regret when you get railed into the floor on various matches before you make a come back ;P

but yeah fun game and totally worth grabbing for the multiplayer, I mean mk1, mk2, and ulitmate mk3 online for 10 bucks you can't beat it and don't let the talk of empty lobbies scare you; fact is it only takes a handful of people playing to get several games going and when you're sitting there looking at an empty lobby you could be playing; people are just afraid to host but don't be you'll get a game within in a min. most of the time

this. in fact, doing fireballs in SF (down/down-towards/towards/punch) is arguably far easier on keys as you only have to make 2 presses of 3 keys, down/towards & punch). there's no risk or margin for the error of accidentally rolling the d-pad or stick too far and accidentally jumping.

only problem is long keyboard sessions kill my fingers, so i prefer (and am more used to) a pad. just not an x-box one with it's infamously useless d-pad).

FPSs with mouse, yes, that's logical. no argument possible from a rational brain. Very, very few, if anyone would have the same control with a mouse as with a thumbstick at the same dpi.

however I cannot agree with digital input games. 1 thumb faster than 4 fingers? doesn't compute. many pad users for 2D fighters don't even palm the pad and use thumbs, because fingers can cover multiple buttons to be pressed instantly.

edit: i now see this has been adressed, i should really get to end of a thread before replying :L

Words.
This + an xbox 360 gaming stick (SF4 TE stick) = the ultimate fighting game experience.
