View Full Version : "Vegan" ranged attack exploit

I started a new Random Build character, and one of the skills was Killer Vegan. I wasn't really sure how it worked (I assumed it had something to do with not eating meat or eggs, I don't know if cheese is OK yet) until I melee attacked a Diggle. I hadn't realized up until that point that all Diggles were kind of just ignoring me, and had been attacking them with ranged weapons like Dwarven Boomerangs and Softballs. Maybe I hadn't been doing enough damage per attack, or something (I hadn't leveled up yet), but this may or may not be an exploitable bug.

Yep, that's a perk you get for being a Vegan. You are a friend to all the cute and cuddly animals. This is very handy once you get down to Floor 11 and you're surrounded by Muscle Diggles that would otherwise be smashing you for 40 damage a turn--instead of having to fight them, you get to just whistle on by.

Just don't use melee attacks on them, or you'll get cursed for 200 turns with a big stinky debuff. (Non-melee attacks are allowed, though, if you feel the need for violence.)

Not all of them. Bats and Blobbies, as "cutely" drawn as they are, still want to kill me.

Additionally, I'd have thought I'd get some kind of bonus against vegetable enemies like the potato, but it seems the "Grain Harvest" (akin to the Butcher's random steak drops) is the best I'll get. Curiously enough, the random build generator put the Butcher skill right next to the Vegan skill, and since the latter overrides the former (in terms of limiting actions and penalties), it practically wasted a skill slot. The two should be mutually exclusive (i.e. you can't have one in your skillset if you have the other).

At least the game is forgiving enough that if a room is crowded with Diggles, and I can't teleport out for lack of mana or potions, I get one free hit if the Diggle walks into my path and ends up triggering an attack. I just wait until most of the other monsters are out of the floor, and wipe out the Diggles.

Turn off the option to walk as attack/use. It should help keep you from hitting them accidentally.

Blobbies are "Other", not "Animal", so they're not affected by Veganism. Batties should leave you alone, though.

There is a small xp bonus for killing veggies later on in the skill tree, but it doesn't scale with the dungeon level, so it's currently pretty useless.

As for Big Game Hunter, well, you can still summon Hunting Diggles, and you still get the passive stat buffs. *shrug* If you think it's bad getting Big Game Hunter and Killer Vegan in the same random build, just wait until you get Vampirism.
