Right now, all I see is matchmaking and it places me in a lobby with random users. I don't see an option to invite a friend or join a specific group of people. How can I get into a game with my friend?

Okay my friend and I figured out how to get this to work... it's really lame though. You have to add the person on Games for Windows Live first, and then invite them to play THROUGH THAT. This is really strange, it should support inviting through Steam like any other multiplayer steam game. Come on guys :(. And also it's incredibly buggy, game invites only work half of the time.

Thats just normal. It's not a steamworks game ;) In every GFWL game you have to invite your friends through GFWL. But, its not that hard... ;)
Btw, if you didn't know: You can create a party.

^ This.
Having an xbox I feel this is totally normal and natural... but I can see where it feels unnecessary on Steamworks.

Roger that, They are under contract wit WB to use GFWL, i can understand that, but it should atleast work in steam too, when they choose to distrubute through steam, its simply unforgivable, that u cant use steam to invite and play wit ur friends,..
Didn't see it explained but basicly once you friend your friend (yo dawg) on GWFL you hit 1 for view party, then open the invite window which brings up your friends list in game on a cellphone looking thing, check your friend's name, then hit enter to send the invite. Once you do that - which reads a hell of a lot longer than it actually is - and your friend accepts the party invite you will be partied together until you either kick them or one of you leaves and you will land in the same lobbies together.

It is silly. I have found being in a party with a friend actually further decreases your chance of finding a game. Somehow they have actually managed to find a way for things to take even longer.
