I don't know if this have already been posted, or if this is old, but anyway. Watch this and be amazed, if you haven't yet:

I couldn't even believe my old crappy GPU could render that much so easily. At first I refused to believe that was actually rendering, and wasn't just a pre-rendered video

I wonder what camera they used to film it. it looks so clear

Wouldn't say that's the future of gaming. Still quite nice though.

Wish it would let me turn off the film grain. Admittedly, both the SSSS and film grain serve to blur the texturing, and if it let you get rid of them both you'd get to see the model in its full pixelated ugliness, particularly the ears. Even so, I hunger for greater texture definition.

Vimeo just doesn't load the actual player for me, most of the time, in order to push play. I don't know if it's because of Adblock Plus or Flashblock, or whatever.

Considering you're only rendering one object, I wouldn't be surprised if this runs well on most GPUs.

Nope DX10. Consoles don't support it. We'll be enslaved to DX9 until the end of time.

We are currently going on year 6.

oi u agree

Consoles can't render it, not the future of gaming.

I wouldn't believe my Mobility Radeon 5470 could render something like that at 30 fps until I just witnessed it. Is this what it means to truly optimize for the PC?

Still, rendering only one object.

It's a single object.. when you add complexity and more objects.. well performance starts taking a major hit. Imagine 10, 20, 30, 40, 100 of these characters in a single scene.. yea. Like I said, it's pretty cool. It's not for gaming though.

Watched it and they're really begging for a spoof with that music. Imagine a fat ugly mug with some epic serious music behind it and it's making some really stupid faces.

Tell me about it. I watched it after reading this and when the drums kicked in at around 2:40, I cracked up. :P

Anyways, it might sound picky, but those eyelids look...odd. The rest of it is pretty damn impressive.

Its going to have extreme uncanny valley problems though once animated. Quite often these hyper real animated characters look like dead bodies talking.

Please don't. Games are becoming more and more complex to make which means higher cost, longer development time (this kills me), more stress, and more focus on graphics than gameplay, that's the big one. I'm fine with the graphics of today. Maybe developers should invest in figuring out a way to streamline making games if that's even possible.

I agree alot actually I dont really care so much about graphics anymore. Its the AI/pathfinding is what is lacking extremely in games today.

I have to agree. If the future of gaming is to stare at a bald-head, middle-aged dude that seems to be asleep while very dramatic Batman: Dark Knight style music plays in the background....then I don't like the future!

Thanks a lot, bowmoq!

I suppose in-game characters will have that level of quality some day but I would not start holding my breath just yet.

I think with next gen games, it could be mimicked somehow, but I could be wrong.

You don't just want to watch a video. The impressiveness of this is to watch the whole scene render in seconds in front of your eyes. You can download the .exe in one of the links below the video. It's even more impressive.

It's even more impressive. It's probably because my monitor is only 1680x1050 cause I didn't notice any difference between the HD clip and the actual demo.

There really shouldn't be a difference, if the video is encoded well.
However, once you finish the pre-arranged portion of the demo, you get a 'playground' mode where you can tweak or disable the individual shader effects to see what contributes to what pixels. What you can do there will have nothing to do with any video.

First off it does look nice for skin. Notice at no time did our victim open his eyes:D. It would have spoiled the "realism". Like it did with a video of the fake girl reporter. Her eyes were wrong. Pretty graphics are nice but that's all they seem to want to work on anymore. Nothing else seems to be updated other than graphics due to consoles being the focus. Until/if the new consoles get some serious ram upgrades I don't see this trend changing. It will still be all about the pretty and no substance.

While I can fully appreciate pretty graphics, I want to see much better AI's, more fluid and realistic animations of faces, lip syncing, body movements. More interaction with the environments. New collision technology. I want to see the ball laying in the hand of my character. not clipping through it or floating above it. I want to see my hand wrapped firmly around the rung of the ladder I'm climbing not floating atop it. To me those things will bring a more realistic feel to a game than more pretty graphics will. The problem with more realistic graphics is it points out the flaws even more. The closer you get to reality the more things begin to look out of place .

^ I totally agree.
The animations is kind of the next thing they should focus on. As well as collisions.
It`s kinda strange they can`t make surfaces so they act like... well, normal surfaces, not being able to go trough a wall or something.
And it really helps if the 'actors' don`t move around like puppets. It actually makes them more realistic than just the graphics quality would do.

On a sidenote, this would`ve looked nice on LA Noire. :/ better than the creepy faces they use now. lolz.

It looks all right. The hair/eyebrows were flat which looked pretty bad compared to the rest of the face. Overall it still looks pretty fake to me. But, it's definitely an improvement. Hopefully they make another demo; one that stresses the system more.

Perhaps, one day, when they begin mass producing quantum computers, this will seem completely obsolete........one can only dream...

This is nice, but it's still complete garbage. Why?

Aesthetics > Graphics

You could create a more emotive cartoon-style character at a fraction of the cost, and not have to worry about falling into the uncanny valley at all (you'd never have to cross it in the first place).

Not amazed at all.

This (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UYgLFt5wfP4) and this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RSXyztq_0uM) were far more impressive.

What you linked seems to be a school project, and it shows.

No, it's just a short narrative for the purpose of a technology demo.
