View Full Version : [Suggestion] How to make the Steak viable again after the Sandvich nerf

Now, we all know how much the Steak was punished by the Sandvich nerf. After the change, we now have a Steak that has no way to heal its user at all. Changing the nerf so it only applies to the default Sandvich isn't an option either - everyone would just switch to the Steak and insta-heal themselves with that instead, completely circumventing the nerf and making the default Sandvich utterly useless.

So what do we do?

Here's my idea.

Part 1: Make eating the Steak heal the user. Not nearly as much as the Sandvich - let's say 120 points or so.

Now, Steak users can heal themselves again, just not as much as Sandvich users. Instead of getting a full heal, they get a partial heal and the steak's minicrit+speed+melee effect.

There's still one problem, though. Healing yourself with the steak and then jumping right back into combat still won't be possible, since you'll be locked into using melee only for 15 seconds. This is where part 2 comes in.

Part 2: The Steak effect no longer locks the user into melee-only. Instead, switching to your primary will just end the effect prematurely.

Bssically, you no longer have to use the Steak effect if you don't want to. Just switch from your melee weapon to your minigun, and the effect will end automatically. The effect will also end if you touch a resupply cabinet, to prevent Heavies from eating the Steak and switching to a free mini-crit Shotgun.

Steak is already viable. Enhanced mobility for 15 seconds while maintaining the ability to heal teammates? ♥♥♥♥ yeah.

I mean sure, I know what you are getting at, and in truth I was the first to realize the consequences several months prior to the actual testing/nerf, but it is viable. Probably even better than Sandvich for games where speed matters.

Yeah, the Steak is already a viable weapon. When it was first added to the game a lot of us assumed being able to toss it was an oversight (especially since it originally used the normal Sandvich plate model when dropped) that would be fixed shortly. With the self-heal on both it and the Sandvich, it was pretty much an upgrade, since no one who knew better actually ate the Sandvich anymore.

I suppose the suggestion here wouldn't make it a total upgrade, but I still think the weapon is fine the way it is. It's a speed boosting tool primarily, but one that also makes your melee weapons a little more viable.

I'd say make the mini-crit vulnerability apply only to melee weapons, since the temporary loss of a minigun is a rather big enough of a downside already.

Finally each and every lunchbox has its defined, separate role.

Sandwich - portable heavy medkit
Steak - extended mobility (+godmode in medievals :D)
Chockobar - extra hp

only thing needed is adding chocko way to be dropped to heal teammates.

i actually think this is a brilliant idea

the only prob i had with the steak was how long it kept the user in a melee-only state. i mean, if its gonna be used for those crossings that take 5-10 seconds, then the rest of the 5-10 seconds will be wasted waiting on the buff to end, and those 5-10 seconds mean a lot in the heat of a battle
