Looks like Rockstar is taking a page from the film Man on Fire.

By the way, Rockstar certainly makes the best trailers

Already got my preorder in :D

It's certainly very different from the first two, but maybe Mona will make a cameo.

I've got a discussion thread going in the MP sub-forum, not a lot of discussion there either. I guess most people are in a wait-and-see situation, the game not being done by Remedy. It is a collaborative effort though, led by Rockstar Vancouver and Remedy have given Rockstar some feedback, so Rockstar has their blessing. I'm hoping for the best, previews have been promising so far.

I can't stand Rockstar and everything about this looks absolutely atrocious.

I couldn't care less if Remedy's not developing it. Rockstar has damn good teams and I love the much more mature setting they're going for with Max Payne 3.

I don't see how anyone can be a purist today when Remedy sold out years ago. The only good thing they've done is giving Rockstar their feedback, imo.

The trailer, along with all other footage of MP3, so far, is proof that the level of quality is very high and there's a good chance the game will be a great successor.

I'll be getting it for sure.

I suppose another way to look at this game is that it's GTA set outside of a US city, for once.

I'm probably going to regret going into this, but why and why?

Rockstar has damn good teams

Depends on the team. The team in question is Rockstar Vancouver (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rockstar_Vancouver#Games) (formerly Barking Dog Studios). They have experience, but I'm not exactly blown away by their resume. It'll be hard to live up to what Remedy has already laid down, but I've been optimistic ever since they mentioned the Tropa de Elite and Man On Fire films as inspiration, which means they're taking the setting seriously. The last patch of previews and all the recent footage has made me very hopeful as well.

I love the much more mature setting they're going for with Max Payne 3.

Just curious, more mature in what way?

I don't see how anyone can be a purist today when Remedy sold out years ago.

I don't consider myself a purist, but to be fair, it's not easy being a small (50-60 employees) studio, that had some really ambitious plans with Alan Wake. I hate to see them being Microsoft's lapdog, but it's pretty clear they need the financial backing to fund these triple A games. It's also sad to see them sell the Max Payne IP to Rockstar, but I guess it had to be done. Staying an independent studio is not easy these days.

The trailer, along with all other footage of MP3, so far, is proof that the level of quality is very high and there's a good chance the game will be a great successor.

Indeed.

Just because it's not Neo-noir doesn't make game bad.

Many people do not think this is a Max Payne game.Because so far, from several things I've seen it's not. Doesn't mean it won't be an absolute blast to play but just because they used the Max Payne name don't make it a real Max Payne game.

It's a standard practice now days to steal parts of great games and re-imagine the IP. AvP2010,FEAR2/3, CD's Tombraider, DNF. They leach off the franchise but don't deliver for the fans. The noobs to gaming eat it up though.

I still don't see any actual gameplay in the trailer just CGI despite implied claims to the contrary in the trailer. In game footage is not the same as gameplay.

PS: I'm definitely interested in playing it, but proof will be in the pudding as to if it's a real Max Payne game.

i'm surprised so many people are pessimistic about this game

last time i checked Rockstar is one of the few developers that ALWAYS deliver with their games, reagardless if it's of your liking or not

Just to be clear, Rockstar Games is made up of 7 development teams and 2 localization studios. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rockstar_games#Rockstar_studios) People often make the mistake that it's all one team making those games and apply the same level of quality displayed by Rockstar North, their best studio. Rockstar San Diego made a serious leap with Red Dead Redemption though and it looks like Rockstar Vancouver is looking to do the same with Max Payne 3.

They are new to AAA title development but as I look at their past projects, I'm convinced they will deliver a fine product. :)

It'll be hard to live up to what Remedy has already laid down, but I've been optimistic ever since they mentioned the Tropa de Elite and Man On Fire films as inspiration, which means they're taking the setting seriously. The last patch of previews and all the recent footage has made me very hopeful as well.I agree, though, I believe no one can ever truly live up to people's expectations when it comes to adding new games to old franchises. Nostalgia is a powerful and not mention a bit deceptive thing, imo.

Just curious, more mature in what way?Just as you said previously, I'm liking the inspiration they've taken from films like Tropa De Elite. The movie showed the cold and ruthless side of humanity.

Not that the dark noir-esque comic style painted a mature setting as well, but, this new setting and style comes a few steps closer to mimicking true grit, imo.

Staying an independent studio is not easy these days.I'm not sure about their level of independence, tbh. Microsoft Studios were the publisher for Alan Wake from the start. It was suppose to be a Vista exclusive, with a console version coming in second, I think. I can see how they would corner themselves in that situation. Vista was already a sinking ship as far as PC gaming was concerned.

Anyway, my point is that Remedy Entertainment hasn't done anything for the PC market in years. Disregarding any outside attempt at a Max Payne game because Remedy made the first games so well is pointless. If it weren't for Rockstar and Take-Two, there would probably never be a new Max Payne. Remedy is console only today and as long as they're making money, nothing's going to change, imo.

I may be in a wait and see sort of position, but doesn't stop me from thinking it's less and less Max Payne with every video/trailer that comes out.

Seriously, if the name "Max" wasn't mentioned in the latest trailer, or if they took out the displayed title "Max Payne 3," I'd think it was a totally separate, new ip. Which would have made me really excited about it.

But meh, I'll wait and see when it comes out for real.

http://www.gametrailers.com/video/design-and-max-payne-3/725833Good links!:)I was refering to just the trailer though when talking about no actual gameplay. As I said looks good, I'm very interested in it even if it turns out to be a crappy MP game, it has bullet time but will it "FEEL" like a MP game when I get my hands on it.? That's what I'm waiting to find out.

DX3 did not disappoint me and I thought it would initally. My hope is MP3 can pull this off as well, but causaltitis being what it is, and past history with modern sequels to older hits I'm nervous.

Now there's finally something good to show off the game. Everything else has made the game look boring and generic.

It looks like it could be a good game but this doesn't look like a Max Payne game at all. Very disappointed. :(

I wish it was Remedy that was doing this. I hate Rockstar and their terrible PC ports.
