Well worth it, I dont care what anybody says this game rocks. Not going to make any refrences to any other games out there but this is a game to buy, now! And im running fully maxed on a GTX450, very nice for console port updated and controls are perfect no problems so far. And GMG has 30% off right now. So buy it here like I did or go buy it there and save money. Ill support their games from now on. But only on PC. So whens the next One?

I'm running GTX 480 2-way SLI (but SLI is still not supported at the moment) and I'm only getting 30ish - 60ish fps at 4x AA 1920x1200, everything else is fully maxed.

With your so-called non-existing GTX 450, you should get in the lower 20 or 10 fps Fully Maxed at 1920x1080, even at 2x AA.

Here's what a FULLY MAXED setting will look like:
AA = 8x.
AF = 16x.
FXAA = High.
Shadow Quality = High.
SSAO = High.
BackDrop quality = High.
GodRay quality = High.
Volumetric Light Quality = High.
Draw Distance = MAXIMUM!

They keyboard and mouse controls are fine. A little (and I mean little) awkward at first since the camera is angled off of Alan a bit more than you'd expect, but the game does well at showing you where you're aiming all the time regardless.

HUD MODE OFF is an excellent addition and makes it that much more interesting without getting in the way of gameplay. UI prompts such as "pick up" or tutorial messages still show even with this mode enabled which is a great compromise, I believe.

My bad ....yeah its gts 450 and yeah i only play it at 1024x768....so sorry its not 1080p but do i care...nope...what i do care about is it doesnt look bad for being a port and it handles well with kb mouse....is it a short game...idk as i only played 10min so far because i have other things to do....and i would read the posts but why...everyones entitled to an opinion...my point was made at the top...good game runs well looks nice based on initial game play....will there be any problems in later stages...dont know or care...i built this sh it system for under $300.00 w/ used parts and it plays everything i have....and ive spent more money on games this monthe than the entire rig i built.....for now i am content playing at that res with everything else maxed as far as ingame settings go.....thats all...didnt mean to piss people off or imply im lying...yeah i should have double checked my op....but if you take forums so seriously im worried about how you approach the real world....jesus...have fun and well have fun...thanks....and to everyone who didnt get all crazy cause of my OP thanks...nothing more....and for those who dont know...Mass Effect 3 Demo looks great i mean damn...like jaw dropped....oh yeah and thats at 1024x768 well worth the buy...now adding more games to Origin stupid EA so far 7....got to do what you got to do to play games....Later

What he says is technically true. I also think he's wrong.

It takes all of five minutes to adjust to the fact that the game is not played from a camera behind the character - instead the character is always on one side of the screen and you just have to readjust your mouse steering to the new norm. It is also a smart way to do third person camera as this way the main character is not blocking you from seeing where you are heading. This is a big fat non-issue.

Lack of crosshair is also a non-issue - you always have your flashlight that acts as one. Alan shoots where his flashlight points at. Simple as that. Even without the console auto-aim, you have no problems with headshots from a good distance. Takes a few moments to adjust to, that's all.

Performance... l2p video settings. This is not a 1:1 console port (a 1:1 console port would have run just fine on almost any PC today). Alan Wake eats up video card memory like no tomorrow and on less-than-1GB cards if you put the settings too high, it will kill performance. It is also fairly heavy on the CPU and if you don't have a quad, you could be limited by that. It is a proper PC version with extra visual options that push it beyond the Xbox version - which then require extra muscle to run properly.

If you set it close to Xbox 360 looks (low-medium textures, medium shadows, 2x AA without FXAA etc) it runs 60fps on any good PC *at 1920x1200*. Xbox 360 version ran at sub-720p resolution... at 30fps, with dips below it... and those pixel counts really matter. In fact I'd ignore every single post about AW performance (good/bad) that doesn't specify the resolution used. The visuals are such that if you up the pixel count, the performance demand goes up hard with that and the high res textures at high resolutions really do require a card with more than 512MB memory.

Also I would never trade away mouse + keyboard to a pad in Alan Wake. Scanning around with a flashlight for secrets (or just turning rapidly against the enemies that come from all sides) is just... it is a game made for a mouse. Yeah, they initially released it with pad controls and it is kinda-playable on one, but things are far better with a mouse.

I NEVER said it ran above 60fps, if you knew what you were talking about, you would know that 90% of average modern monitors won't support more than 60fps anyways. (I said most as in the average flat screen user out there)

SLI profiles are a seperate issue. Not sure why yours is dropping to 30 though, that is odd. Certain games do struggle if the profiles aren't optimized. You might actually get better performance if you turn one of the cards off while playing.

This is true. My game mostly runs at 52-55 maxed out. I wonder if my new 7970 3 gb will make a difference. But so far, I have been very happy with my 5870 1 gb. So far, it has hardly shown any aging in the two years I have owned it.
