I have always wanted to try out Alan Wake, and seeing it finally available on Steam, I'm seriously thinking of buying it.

However, I don't particularly enjoy scary games. It's just not my thing, I don't watch horror movies either because in principle, making yourself scared for fun seems stupid to me. I don't know, I just don't like being scared in general.

Anyways, I don't think Alan Wake is scary at all, judging by the gameplay videos or photos, it just seems a little bit eery and dark, which is cool. But I don't know the whole thing since I haven't played the game,so I would like if someone can tell me whether it's scary to the point that someone like me might get turned off.

Alan Wake is more eerie to me than anything else. More of a strange "what is going on here?" kind of thing in the back of your head. Atmospherics help with that as well.

I've never been scared of traditional slasher films and books, so it's more the mystery of it (at least so far) that intrigues me. As always, your mileage may vary.

Depends on your definition of scary.

Its more like a mysterious thriller to me.

I like games with tension, but I hate games which are too heavy on shock effects and/or extremely scary atmosphere(Doom3 for example).

So far I love it and Iīm at chapter 3 already. Itīs not very scary, only thing that gets my pulse higher is when an enemy comes very close without me noticing(doesnīt happen often) or when I wander off the path to look for secrets(can be avoided by not doing that :p)

Also, the tension gets losened up by daylight sequences and radio broadcasts.

Pretty much what the others said. It's not scary at all for me. You'll be fine!

I'm really disappointed it's not scary.

It's not particularly scary, but then the only games that have ever scared me (Unless you count the occasional cheap jump scare, the the undead dog jumping through the window in the original Resident Evil.) are the first Silent Hill and Amnesia.

The same's true of horror movies and novels. They just don't scare me.

I still find them entertaining though and Alan Wake is quite an entertaining game. I thought so when I bought it for the 360 (Which I no longer have, the system or the game, alas.) and I think so now.I'm really enjoying playing it again.
