It's an amazing engine that has tons of potential.
- More fluid than any modern 2D engine. Moves combine and flow over into each other seamlessly, it all feels natural.
- Allows combat. I don't have any trouble at all imagining something like castlevania, with DF's engine. Of course, the weapons DF has are just basic, but that's not even a real problem.
I really can't think of any 2D game that comes even close to DF's engine. When I imagine DF's engine put to use in a different genre, I see a 2D version of this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sQ-qt5oSgMY&feature=related). The gameplay in that game (Devil May Cry 3) is very different of course, but I'm mostly looking at how air jumps, air dashes, and wall-running sets up combos.
No rush of course, DF is an amazing game as it is, but I'm just saying; the engine has potential, don't waste it.
