I am in LOVE with this game. Learning curve is a bit of a problem, but it's slow and thinky, and for once I'm fairly good at it. :D

I adore the cold war setting, I love the units. It's really neat that stuff like antitank guided missiles need to be launched from sneaky distances, and are then absolute tank killers, but the moment the tank can see the launcher and attack the missile operator who's guiding it in, the missile guidance goes off and almost always misses.

Every unit has its unique quirks, which I adore, though the claims that there are 300+ units in the game are not QUITE as true as they should be. Most units have multiple variants - so there are three kinds of M1A1 Abrams, or something like six T-62s. But the costing balance is great.

There is a big, big, BIG focus on spotting the enemy effectively to engage them, too, which I think is great -- although this game desperately needs a visual 'fog of war' effect, or something like that.

It's not going to be everyone's favourite, but for now, it's certainly mine.

I agree. It's definetly a fun and well made game. (As soon as they fix the über mortars, heli and artyspam.) And yes. The game also needs a fog of war similar to that of World in Conflict.

But as for the '361units isnt true part' most of the tanks that have similar variants are more diffrent than you'd think. (however, some are pretty much identical with diffrent logos in the side, take the soviet and german UAZ for example) But i'd say there are like 250~ unique units?

The best non-basebuilding RTS ever?

That title belongs to Ground Control, which released about 11.5 years ago by Massive Entertainment.

WEE is more similar to Ground Control then to Ruse.
In GC your troops arrived off map too, but by the use of dropships.

Check it out:

That game was so ahead of its time, its incredible and shows just how creative and unique the guys at Massive Entertainment were at that time.

GC was a great game, there's no doubt about that. Wargame:ee does up the aspects that made GC great. Position counts for a lot and due to the way the victory conditions work you must be frugal with your units. Command points build up horribly slow so you can only spam once.

People who just tank rush will not win against anyone with any sort of skill. Even a valiant loss in a position can give you the victory if you exacted your toll on the enemy.
