Ok, guys
As Armistead has pointed out in this thread (http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2552939), server freezes had become a major issue. I could not play a single game today.
Thus I'm asking you to PLEASE submit a ticket to Steam Support.
Please don't be lazy and do it as the more complaints they get the more chances are the issue is going to get resolved.
I just submitted mine. Please do the same.
Thankx.

Hey Hobo Taco..., Yea, sure we've been in a number of games together that's crashed, frankly every game I've tried to play has been attacked in the last week, I've yet to finish one map.
Back to my other non steam game where I don't have this problem.
There is one idiot that goes by Tegan Rain Quin that is openly crashing games, he goes from game to game seemingly non stop, let's people play until he can spoil it at the right moment, but the fact is every other game I play when he isn't around the game lags out as if it's a ddos attack.
Again, I find it hard to believe this is happening to every map, it may be that many idiots doing attacks, but I'm beginning to think something larger is going on...Before this last week or so it was rarely an issue, now playing is impossible.
I've long submitted, not sure what they can do though.

No, it does not look like ddos at all. Its too widespread for that. Besides, who would want to do this over l4d? I could see large ddos attack on l4d2 (hehe) but for l4d(almost a dead game).
So I think its gotta be either client issue due to age or one of the Steam Client updates is screwing with the game now.
I may be wrong, but you know...

I first thought it was my internet problem with a cable or something, but it only really happens at night time (for valve) , I'm in the Belgium region.
I axperience this alot between 8h-13h (gmt+1) So it's mostly in the morning here in this timezone.
Sometimes it's not as bad and you just freeze for a second. Sometimes the freezes are just everlasting and you need to type disconnect.
It's the same symptom thet happens when they disable/enable matchmaking and steamfriends and you notice a hickup but then much longer and more profound. You're first warped around and then either thrown off the server completely or you just see a glitchy screen forever.
I wonder if there's a network monitoring program that I can use to detect to which host packet losses start to occur, or dips in trafic to a certain port.

Regarding sound loop freezes, I can be back in the game after a freeze within 9 seconds, no having to quit.
Upon freeze up, do a ctrl+alt+del. When the Task Manager window comes up, do nothing, just click the X to close that Task Manager window. Now click on the l4D that was minimized to your task bar to bring up the game again.
Reply to this thread if this 9 second fix works for any out there.

I use to get sound loop freezes, finally just set sounds to medium setting, don't get them anymore.

Is this all to do with just your Versus games? You post as if what you're experiencing is rampant and widespread when I don't think it is in comparison to the overall number playing. Also, if someone is running a server and it's not completely anonymous, but rather community oriented, then hackers may have noted the IP of the server and are targeting it. That I can see happening. What I don't see happening is someone doing random DDOS attacks across the board. No hacker would gain much rep from his hacker peers by randomly attacking all L4D servers, why?....the game is just no longer in the spotlight. No prestige.
I say it again, some servers are more well known as they are privately run, with mods and other community participation (rather than just a generic anonymous L4D server). Those type servers are more likely to be attacked by someone holding a grudge, a power trip, or whatever.
Valve is never going to do anything about that. So why submit a ticket?
IF it IS a Valve server system malfunction, Valve will correct that within a day or two, hopefully.
Also, I'm not even sure you've determined what's going on with certainty. You just know somethings happening you don't like.

Because see below.

See above ;)

Neither have you. But what I have said comes from simple observation. And as that started happening more often to the point of not being able to play a single game, I had to do something.
So please submit a ticket. Even if everything OK on your side, Valve still needs to know that there are people who need to be able to play this game.
I hope this last thought of mine is something we can agree upon. Isnt it ? ;)

As far as servers overall, things seem fixed, yea, still the few idiots doing dos attacks non stop, but overall the other problem seems fixed, I played last night with no crashes.

Nope. It is still happening. Happened today to me. Although I must admit that yesterday and today it was much better.
