Scottish Bastard Impossible To Play As

I'm trying to play as the scottish bastard but it's impossible to go more than one generation as far as I can tell. You have to do all mariages matrilnieally which means your heir is never part of your dynasty, and the scottish bastard has no cousins he can marry and you can't marry lowborns so IDK what to do with him except for lose.

If you could somehow get legitimized, your bastard can then once again have regular marriages. Generally, only your father can do this.

If your dad's not alive, then, yeah, you're done.

This is both historicially accurate, and intended.
You may as well be playing as a common peasant, that would be easier than an non-legitamized bastard.

no it's ridiculous that as the brother to the king you can't marry some courtier, or have a cadet house, or something like that
