"Game engine stopped" error

I'm trying to play the campaign, as soon as the initial cut scene ends and starts up the dialogue with the three characters on screen an error box appears that says "Game engine stopped" and I have the options "reconnect" or "ok". Reconnect just pauses everything for a second then the error flashes, ok just sends me back to the main menu. It gets through the entire intro fine, but when it gets to the actual game it just has everything greyed out except for this popup. I manually selected the tutorial map and it played fine, no error.

Any suggestions? Frantic googling gives me no information.

I also had an error that would occur when starting a multiplayer game. I would get "Could not load font anglepants". By installing this font I could get into multiplayer games AND the singleplayer campaign started working as well. Hope this helps!
