Just got the Orange box during Christmas. Don't know why I haven't played TF2 after all these years, its so much fun.

With the regular items I got compared to other people who has better gear, I stand little or no chance and I am completely dependent on healing the heavy/soldier while we assault them.

I was wondering what are the best items should I be looking for as a medic. Money wont be an issue, what items would they trade for?

and 1 last thing, it seems like my worst enemy is the spy who keeps backstabbing me in 1 hit kill.

I also like playing a support role and the only class ive been playing so far. Any other recommandations/item gear for classes I should look for as a newbie that's been playing for a couple of months.

If you are bad, no items will help you. TF2 is not a "normal" F2P game where you can pay for premium guns and armor that will net you couple more kills.

You can get Ubersaw and Kritzkrieg by earning achievements and trade for Overdose if you want some more survivability.

In fact Medic is one of the strongest classes to counter Spies, since Medic doesn't need to look at enemies during battles, checking out his immediate surroundings instead.

Just get the Kritzkrieg and maybe an Ubersaw. In most cases stock Medic is best.

I've been watching some youtube videos about medic tutorials. It's very helpful regarding gameplay and movement wise, however it does not provide new weapons strategy or counters against new weapons from other classes

I have an idea how to play as one now however, this is an outdated guide. "Jan 1 2008" and They are using stock items or vanilla version.

With new weaponry for the medic, I can even the playing field against the opposing team. Its my Lvl 1 item vs his Lvl 10 or better stats on it.

You seem to have the wrong idea: most items in TF2 are not "better" than stock. A level 50 item can be completely useless, gameplay wise. The level of an item does not say much either; it does not heal faster, or do more damage.

This is especially true for a medics main weapon, his heal gun. The stock medigun is, in my opinion, by far the most versatile and useful choice. Yes, KritzKrieg lets your healtarget do crits. But there are half a dozen weapons out there with the same effect (crit-a-cola, Soda popper, buff banner, buffalo steak, etc). No other item in the game lets you shoot while invulnerable (ok, deadringer comes close :P). As for the QuickFix, that is even more situational.

The melee weapons are a straight upgrade though (in most cases anyway), but you seldom 'need' them. A bonesaw kills a spy just as fast as an amputator. Ubersaw is pretty handy mind, and I quite like the amputator+crusader-crossbow set bonus. You usually find those fast enough though.

Levels mean nothing. My fish bat is 'level 42' only because 42 is the meaning of life, and there's nothing more to it than beating down people with a fish. The atomizer is 'level 10' and a million times more useful. However, these are both scout weapons, and the medic can't have them. This is not COD/BF, where later level weapons are the only thing worth having. Again, using the scout, the Scattergun is the best weapon for him, hands down.

Ok, here's the main thing. Medic isn't a combat class. Quite simply, keep aware, and use your patient as a body shield. If ever caught in the open, use your syringe gun as you backpedal. But just focus on building that uber. Pop it, don't drop it. And please, use it. I swear, a medic that has full Uber and watches me die should die as well. It's just infuriating.

The Blutsauger reduces health regen on medics.
The Overdose does less damage, making it a situational weapon.
The Crossbow is a joke and should only be used for the set bonus.

Keep the bonesaw for now.

If you ever need help understanding TF2, hit me up some time. I've spent years teaching my friends how to play this game

EDIT: Fingolas above said everything I was going to say and more succinctly as well.

Item levels mean nothing.
Stock weapons > or = new weapons 95% of the time (this goes for all classes.)

As a medic don't worry about the weapons so much. Worry instead about your positioning, your awareness of your surroundings (this will help with spies) and when you have an advantage and should push (or disadvantage/retreat.)

Oh and learn how to communicate via the mic effectively. As a medic, it is your prerogative to ask for help and direct people. Don't talk constantly but talk regularly to try and coordinate what is going on. You know, try and work with multiple members of your team.
