View Full Version : Why was Rayman Origins demo pushed to me?

Has anyone else had the Rayman Origins demo pushed into their installed list, despite not having requested it? I wouldn't normally mind, but I happened to be using a tethered connection on my phone at the time.
[edit] nm, just noticed others have it too (http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2492623). However, I'll leave this thread up as a heads-up for those who don't realise.

Me too.
Out of interest - does any of you own the game on another platform. Not sure if its coincidence but i picked up a VITA and just purchased origins on that... and then this happens.
Either way VALVE - sort this out. You can't go pushing stuff onto people.

This hasn't happened with other demos... But it's lame, Ubisoft sucks and I don't want their ♥♥♥♥ cluttering my games list.

Uh, wtf is up with this Steam? Is this really the direction we're heading? Would be good to know before I invest any more dimes into this account...

Guerilla marketing of the game has resulted in this:
-Never purchasing or playing anything with RAYMAN in title
-Another reason to avoid Ubisoft competely.

I don't own the game on any other platforms and upon launching steam today I found the game on my list already "installed". I refuse to support Ubisoft and find it very annoying that this game is now on my list, and apparently I'm not able to delete it either. I don't think the game is actually installed, because I can't find the content for it anywhere in my steam folder.
If I want to play a game I will find it and play it, I don't appreciate having this forcibly added to my list and supposedly installed without my permission.
Please fix this, Valve.

I think its a bug, this has happened in the past with mysterious titles showing up on the lists with names like i.e Valve Test App 12345. My guess its something to do with switching over to the new patching system considering the first thing it asks you to do is convert.

I also had this random crap appear out of nowhere and cause a minor annoyance and so came here to see what the deal is, and I see folks jumpin' on the OP calling them whiny and self-entitled and such. Let me try to explain this easily to you. If I run up and slap a sticker of a smiley face on the side of your car without your knowledge or consent, regardless of whether or not it harms anyone, it's not cool. In the OP's case, they also stole a nickel from his change dish. It's not whiny and self-entitled to call bullshot on that.

The demo is not supposed to appear on everyone's game list. We're currently working on a fix for this.

As a customer I am furious that this game didn't appear in my game list! I want to play it :( guess I'll have to install the demo the old-fashioned way.

Disappointed to find something like this installing without my knowledge.
I wont be buying it, but thanks for the attention to this thread Tony Paloma. :)

Any chance of a few warnings being handed out to the people insulting those that have complained? Pretty sure that's against the TOS of the SPUF.

Get a clue. Some of us who work for a living like to game on our laptops while stuck in an airport.
So you play multiplayer online through your phone net... but 16 mb will kill your phone net?

Calm down there bud. They are working on it, mistakes happen. I think Valve does enough cool ♥♥♥♥ to let them have a small mess up like this.
Thanks Tony for the response.

Not only has it ghost installed itself 2 times now, I've uninstalled and it shows up as download paused. Really? I can't get rid of it...I'm gonna play it, apparently it's meant to be noticed.

I won't complain since I'm interested in Rayman Origins.
They saved me a few seconds installing the demo for me even before I knew there was a demo. :D

I'm really sick of people acting like ungrateful jerks. Go buy a console and see how well MS and Sony treat you.

I tether as well and that's a legit reason to be upset about it but to be really honest I've enjoyed what I've played of it. Stop being so butt-hurt because an accident happened. Accidents happen ffs.

You're seriously asking this on the steam forums? And no, offline mode doesn't play nice with all single player games.
Look, you don't have a problem with this - that's cool. However, if you want to help, how about covering my data charges?

Read the OP. I was wondering if it had happened to anyone else. I take no responsibility for anyone elses post, whether pro or against.
[edit] I see the demo has disappeared from the games list. In future, it would be preferable to use a "Do you want this" prompt before pushing downloads onto people who never asked for them. Feel free to lock the thread.

Given your attitude I wouldn't help you cross the street, much less cover erroneous "data charges" from a rare mistake. Asking about the situation is one thing, but pointing fingers at others and requesting that they cover your oh-so-precious data charges is crossing over into spoiled brat territory. You need to grow up and get over it.

people's forum accounts may have been, but credit card info was not compromised, so get your facts straight.

Fear not, it can be scrubbed from your Library. Just complain to Steam & they will remove it. This also goes for S.T.A.L.K.E.R. - Shadow of Chernobyl (One of my non-favs, too.)

i like the way people complain about stupid things like this... completely unnecessary. As if it even matters, I didn't even notice it on my list. Also people making out that it was more of an issue than it actually was by saying it auto installed it self... it didnt and it also didn't do anything client side.

So why do you need internet to play a single player game?
Because companies like to pile DRM up everywhere.
