So.. Mass Effect 2.. people told me to play Mass Effect 1 first.
Saints Row 2: BAD PC PORT! DON'T DO IT!!!!
Saints Row 3: Thought about it, but saw "Bad AMD/ATi performance!"
So... yeah. Really.. what option do I have?
Anything worth messing with ?
I already have Portal1/2, HL1-HL2:EP2, Unreal-Unreal3, GTA-GTA4, and Crysis/warhead, BatmanAA, Batman AC.
So I don't know what I'd be interested in..

Nothing like fallout 3. And about ME2, I bought it without playing the first one and thought it was fine.

ME1 bored me, I liked how ME2 kept all the rpg parts but remained a shooter as well.

I have it on Steam, it doesn't have any DRM other than Steam as far as I know.

Then I highly recommend all 4 of them (well, I never really liked Munch's Oddysee that much).
One note though: They're very challenging

I played Mass Effect 2 before Mass Effect. The story still made sense (for the most part) and it was a great game, although you would miss out on the ability to import your Mass Effect character to 2 (which does affect gameplay a bit)

I might try it. I still would like to play Saints Row 2, but man does it look scary in terms of people complaining about it on PC.
I got an Athon II X4 640 with a 6750.

I'm in the same boat except I have $22 dollars instead. If anyone would like to recommend me a FPS game that is well populated (1000 players + if multiplayer) then do so. I also like single player games that can last for 50+ hours, so it has to have replayable.

There is my game list.
+rep for suggestions.
*Edit. Sorry OP for semi hijacking your thread, I rather mash it in here then make another thread. I hope you understand.

Trust me, Saints Row 2 works pretty good on PC. The controls can be a bit off sometimes and the menus can only be navigated with the keyboard, but other then that its alright.

I think there're many many good games for $16 or less. One particular that I've sink lots of my time in: http://store.steampowered.com/app/1250/

That's a multiplayer, can't play it on Hughesnet.

I don't have a controller.

Well, looking at your list, you already have pretty much every FPS that meets your criteria and that's available on Steam. :)
There's Unreal Tournament which still has a pretty vivid community for the 2k4 version (I can't check the price since for some reasons it's currently not available in my region, but it should be cheap by now). UT3:BE is a pretty good game, but the MP community never really accepted it, so it was a bit of a stillborn babe. It's good, though, and I play it with my partner still. But for MP, yes, UT2k4 would be the game to go to.
As for SP games, no idea what you like here. Neverwinter Nights 2 Platinum (game and all expansions) is pretty good value at €19, though the dollar price may slightly exceed your limit. Still a good package. Saints Row 2 is currently on sale and can be had for 2.50 Euro, so it's less than five dollars for sure, and that is a really good deal for what you'll get.
And that brings me to the original post:
I don't think SR2 is a terrible console port. I mean, sure, it's a port and you can tell, but I find it quite playable even without a controller. You're looking at dozens of hours of playtime here, for (right now) a very low price. It's a better game than SR3.
No, you don't need to play ME1 before 2 or 3. In fact, don't bother, it's not a great game and it may well ruin the series for you. The Mako is a painful experience, and it's overall pretty dull.
You played any of the Assassin's Creed games? They are actually pretty decent and at least the first one should be in your price range. Also I'd definitely snatch up SR2, no matter what people say. For the current price it's really a good deal.

I really don't understand threads like this because it's like you have $16 that you MUST SPEND or something. I mean, if you can't find something you like, maybe save it for something else later?
I'm just saying, it strikes me as a fiscally unwise mentality. A need to spend money that is just (apparently) destined to be spent on a new Steam game. Even if you can't find one you like, and shoot down many suggestions that come.. You still seem determined to spend it. Why?

ahh put your panties back on. I went ahead and got Saints Row 2 and got me some $1 sonic burgers (Sonic drive inn) with the rest ;o.
Now, where's HL2:EP3/HL3 , Portal 3, and GTA5 so I can actually buy something I want :D

I recommend you intall Gentlemen of the Row (http://www.moddb.com/mods/gentlemen-of-the-row/downloads/gentlemen-of-the-row-final-19) patch/mod.
It adds tons of stuff (but keeps the original game intact). More importantly it fixes many bugs and helps performance.

ME2 is great, but purely because of the story and roleplaying. The action and strategic portions are terrible, if you acknowledge their existence.

Ya, I know what you mean about the controller. I bought the GTA full pack at xmas time when they had the whole package for only £4.99 then I realised it's impossible to drive using a keyboard as you cannot turn as fast as you could if u were using controller? unless anyone knows a fix for this - i'd be grateful

the First ME1 had better story but 2 had better gameplay.

Would agree with you from what I've heard, and from the little I've played of both games. I was told, and I've seen people tell others this, if you didn't enjoy me1 bc of gameplay give the second a try. I've only played a little of me2, I haven't made it through me1 all the way yet... (I take way too long exploring and doing every little thing) but from what I've played, I've enjoyed the games.
