Achievements Unlocking if Played in Browser

I know the achievements will unlock if you play in the browser on your acct that is connected to steam and then open it up again in steam. This worked for the Blue Star achievement for me.

It did NOT work for the Explorer (1,000,000 tiles on 1 char) achievement for me. After death I noticed my char got the fame bonus for Explorer and I opened in steam and did not get the achievement. I was wondering if this achievement unlocks before death on the millionth tile or if it unlocks at death?

I can't play on steam because I get so much lag and I wouldn't even make it to 1 million tiles due to lag related deaths.

All achievements I got on Steam were instantly awarded when the criteria were met, even those that you'd not normally know about until after you die like Oryx Slayer.

It probably recognises the stats your character has in the background but can't read the death summary.

1 million tiles isn't too bad, just run around in trains and Nexus + reenter once it makes a full round trip so you can reveal the tiles again.
