I tried running Shattered Garbage first of all under Win 7 (64bit), but encountered the "Unable to locate a valid DDS, JPG, or TGA file for 'SolidColors'" problem that others have reported here.

I tried the msconfig/2GB RAM fix and that allowed the game to run, but it consistently crashes when you try to start a battle; everything works up until that point in the game.

I then tried my XP system (32bit). That didn't suffer from the 'SolidColors' problem, but the game still consistently crashes when I tried to start a battle.

I'm making this post primarily to make it known that this game's problems are not limited to Windows 7 (or Vista) machines. I don't yet know why it crashes at the same point in the game under Win 7 and XP for me, I might try limiting the number of CPU cores available at boot time to see if that's a factor.

I wouldn't recommend buying this game to anybody, no matter how cheap it is. I only wish I'd checked the forums first before wasting my money.

If you have purchased Shattered Union and are getting:

"Open Pimipmap Chain: Unable to locate valid DDS, JPG or TIF file for 'solid colors'" program error there seems to be only one convoluted fix that you can make to allow your computer to run the game.

Apparently Shattered Union can not run on Windows 7 or Vista if you have more than 2GB of RAM and you need to reduce your RAM while you play SU.

1) Run MSCONFIG
2) Click the "Boot" tab
3) Click the "Advanced options" button
4) Click the "Maximum memory" box
5) Enter 2048 in the box
6) Click OK then click OK
7) Accept the restart prompt
8) Play Shattered Union
9) When finished run MSCONFIG
10)Go to the "Advanced options" screen and unclick the "Maximum memory" box.
11) Restart your computer, again
12) Use the computer with all the RAM you paid for.

Hope this helps.

You're a good man, mate.
Furious that the makers have made no attempt to make it compatible

come on dude, the game is ancient, how long do you expect a small turn based game to recieve support.
