Any progress on a FOV fix/patch or was 2k making s*** up when they said they're going to patch it soon?

i really want to play this game :@

inb4 i'll be using a controller and sitting 5 m's away before the patch actually arrives....

I know mine isn't a popular view, but I played to 100% (twice through campaign, and most of the vendettas) and didn't have a problem with this. In fact if I hadn't seen it on the forums I wouldn't have noticed.

(PC gamer of 20 years -of gaming, not my age- on a 27" monitor that I sit reasonably close to, in 3D)

Edit; my point being that you should play it anyway...

Same :( Really good game, god awful fov. Doesn't seem like the widescreen fixer is going to get updated anymore either as it's still unstable and seems unchanged.

no thx

There's a program called widescreenfixer. It has a profile for the Darkness II and you can change the FOV to whatever you like. I had no major problems, in some of the cutscenes minor graphical bugs on Johnnys arms occured.

The update is still in the testing/quality assurance area. Once it gets cleared it'll be released.

People are under the assumption tat this "update" is only for the FOV slider. Which is incorrect. 2K have said they patch will features other changes, fixes, updates... so the testing it not for the FOV slider, but to make sure the other changes/improvements don't cause issues with the game.

And really, a month? Is that truly such a long time? It's as if you've got nothing else to play in the meantime, no other games. Nope. Just sitting there, counting hours/days until that patch is released so we can play our one and only game.
Unless of course, people want untested, game breaking patches. Then sure, go ahead and release the patch now. I enjoyed it a lot when Bethesda broke Skyrim with a borked update.

I've had games in the past that I've had to sit on and wait for patches to be able to progress (Vampire: Bloodlines, Fallout: New Vegas and many others)... while annoying, it wasn't an issue. Just played something else until fixes came out.

Hey I've been waiting almost 4 months now for Rocksteady to release their next Batman Arkham City patch to fix my broken saved game, so I can wait a bit longer for a Darkness II patch. 2K Elizabeth said in a PM to me that they are working on testing the patch to release it. This came from me sending her a few NVidia fixes for performance. Also, this was like over 3-4 weeks ago... so.... yeah. Hopefully we'll get the patch soon. At least we have some support from 2K over at the 2K forums, unlike some developers.... ahem... Rocksteady and WB

That is the most ridiculous excuse ever. The only serious, game-braking complaint that there is since the demo is the FOV issue. They could ship the game with a 0-day patch for that and then think about changes, updates, multiplayer issues, DLC's whatever. To me they just don't give a ♥♥♥♥ about the PC, which is typical 2K.

Go tell that to the other people having various software conflicts and issues with the game.
Sorry their problems GETTING THE GAME TO RUN are not as horrendous as your issue with the FOV.

Yep, don't test those other fixes, hell... just drop them. No need to worry about fixing problems... just as long some get a FOV slider.

I'd tell them if there were any... If you were right these 8 pages of this forum would be full of "GETTING THE GAME TO RUN-problems", which is not the case. But the FOV issue and the tens of posts for it exist since the demo. You know those epilepsy warnings in the manuals/booklets are there for a reason...

Hey guys -

I wanted to let you know the FOV patch is completed and getting ready to be launched. I don't have an exact date or time yet, but when we hear final word, we'll let you guys know.

And The Darkness II's FOV isn't as "horrible" as most people make it out to be

Yes it is.

Anyways, good to hear news on the update and I'm glad they're patching up the game as well. Looking forward to finally playing it!

Just a slider. No numerical values per setting...

*Sigh* anyway, that'll do.

Looks much better now.

The FOV slider works as intended, but now I'm getting some crazy visual glitches on fire, smoke, explosions, etc.
I tried the game out a few days ago because I got a GTX 680 and it was fine. :(

Anyone else experiencing this?

Ah, well at least it isn't something on my end. Thanks!
Back to waiting for a patch/new driver I go!

OT

680 looks like a beast but why does the 590 have better performance? I'm drooling either way, sitting on a 560ti here.

well 590 has 2x 580 graphics card on a slot so its basically sli :).

It is definitely a driver related issue. Problems like this happen all the time with a brand new baby driver for a brand new GPU. Wait for an updated profile or driver from NVidia.

I can back this up because I use a GTX 470 and don't have issues like that with this patch and I use 295.73 drivers.

My friend uses two GTX 580s with 296.10 drivers, and also doesn't have these issues with the new patch.

You guys should pester NVidia employees at their forums for an update on these issues.

Also, I'm curious to know if you GTX 680 users have stuttering problems? I get them along with my friend. We have to force a 60 frame rate limit via NVidia Inspector to fix it. I'm quite mad the patch didn't include a fix for this.

Hope your issues get resolved soon!

well 590 has 2x 580 graphics card on a slot so its basically sli :).

It's not "basically" SLI... it IS SLI.
I actually "downgraded" from a 590 to a 680 for this very reason. Can't stand SLI due to microstutter and incompatibilities for new games (I would be stuck with gimped performance until the game in question is patched and/or new drivers). I didn't know the card would operate as though it's SLI, even on a single card... so yeah, I sold it as soon as the 680 was released.

Anyway, the 680 actually manages to outperform my 590 with a small overclock (and even moreso with a bigger overclock) with the stock cooler.

It's a hell of a card. Anyway, enough of that off-topic stuff. :)

Here's hoping the driver that fixes this problem for 680 users comes sooner than later.

EDIT: Also, to the above question.. I haven't noticed any stutter at all with the 680 in The Darkness II. Just the visual glitches.

That's really interesting that you don't have stuttering with your GTX 680. That means NVidia updated their Darkness II profile in the 301.10 drivers you both are using for your GTX 680s. The problem with the stuttering must have been a driver issue and not the game its self.

NVidia needs to know these issues. You guys need to goto the NVidia forums and tell the devs there the problems you guys are having. Again, from your reports, they must have already updated the Darkness II profile since the 296.10 drivers. Maybe they screwed something up when they did that.

The NVidia devs are very active in their forums, so go let them know if you want a fix. They can easily just update the profile so you can continue using the same 301.10 drivers. Hope this helps you guys.

wow thanks for the replies. i had given up hope. Can't wait to nail this game now!! :D

just a few late comments:

Whatever, how's this for ya...

From Elizabeth at 2K (http://forums.2kgames.com/showthread.php?117407-Anti-Aliasing-and-FOV&p=1521874#post1521874)

well if i recall correctly, she is now known for lying as when the game launched, she said some BS about the FOV editor was impossible. This lead to Totalbiscuit(youtube game reviewer) posting a video to not buy this game and showing proof she was lying... Thankfully she didn't lie this time. Her reliability has however been flushed down the toilet :/

And really, a month? Is that truly such a long time?

2 months to fix the game? i'm truly happy for the patch to finally come but companies in general should know better, FOV should be a standard option in pc games. i'm not usually a fov witch-hunter but the last 2 games i bought being darkness 2 and syndicate have had large arm/gun models and very small FOV making it very difficult to navigate through the game.
My point is that a FOV changer should be launched with the game or atleast the pc version to have a bigger fixed FOV than on console; this is common sense!
