Hi,i wanted to ask you all if Community Made Maps are protected by a copyright or if they can be used or modified without problems, Because i'm having some problems with people saying it's illegal to take other persons maps.

Edit:Those Persons asked for money to use the map

You can decompile a map normally to see what's in it but it's not always the respectable thing to do.

Taking someones materials out of the map though (Custom content) could be considered illegal though if they made it for their own use.

I can't give you a completely solid answer but if it's in source it's more then likely not illegal as long as your not profiting from someone else's work. Ask for permission first though.

Also, here's all Valve maps decompiled. (http://forums.tf2maps.net/showthread.php?t=5952&highlight=decompiled)

I seriously do not believe it is illegal, or at the very least, not something anyone in their right minds would pursue. It is just a ♥♥♥♥ty thing to do without their permission. Decompiling should only ever be used to see how someone did something in a map...as far as ethics go.
