Language problem and sentry gun not visible

Hi, I have 2 problems.

1) When I place the sentry gun, it's not visible for some reason. Don't know what button to press in order to start it shooting.

2) When I wanna play the game in German (language set in the steam menu) then it still starts in English. Is that some bug?

Different, but possible related:

I want to play the game in English (my OS and Steam default language).

But, the intro is shown with German voices, and all menu texts are missing (replaced by "____").

When I set the game to German (Properties -> Language tab in the Steam Library) it appears to work normally after downloading an update for a while, albeit in German.

Setting back to English is quick (the German is apparently only deleted), and it leads back to the problem above: All menu texts are missing. :-(
