Yeah, I think that must have been an intentional nod to Metroid on Falcom's part, as the resemblance really is uncanny.

I still think those are two *very* different jingles. The only resemblances I see are the similar length and that both are item get jingles. It's not like we're talking about this kind of resemblance:

MP83: If you compare it to Super Metroid's item jingle, the similarity is much more striking:

Wyrdwad: That's true, but I'm talking about the jingle from the NES Metroid. Doesn't sound all that same to me. :) The similarity with the Ys jingle, in my opinion, didn't occur until with later Metroid games.

Well, if Vanilla Ice taught me anything is that music is hard and it's easier to just copy someone else.

The item jingle from the NES Metroid is actually missing the extra wavetable sound channel that the Famicom Disk System version had, and they didn't recompose the jingle to make up for the loss of that channel - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KUtG6iwT3_M&t=0m55s
The more you know~
Ah, I should've guessed that. Thanks, Rev. Ragu. Now I *finally* see the resemblance. :)
