Rayman Origins is the latest game in the ‘Rayman’ series published by Ubisoft. Rayman Origins is a Platformer with a unique artsy environment feel. The character Rayman himself has detached limbs which float comically in the air where limbs would usually be attached to the body by skin. A bizarre creature, Rayman has a warm heart and a wonderful sense of adventure. Loyal to his friends, the thought of them in danger spurs many of his adventures to rescue them.

A Platform game is, in essence the process of transporting your character from point A to point B. Moving your character around, over, through, under, or side-stepping various obstacles is the means by which you achieve this. Many platform games also involve some kind of currency or power-up. The way this applies to Rayman Origins is through ‘Lums’. Lums are the currency collected by Rayman throughout his adventures. Similar to coins in the Sonic the Hedgehog and Mario series, Lums provide various benefits. At the end of each level, your completion is determined by how many Lums you have collected and you are rewarded accordinly.

The environment depicts artwork vividly created using vibrant colours with a wondrous atmospheric feel to it. The artwork gives the impression of being in certain locations such as rainforests or swamps. The environment is interactable with ropes and vines being used to swing across ravines. Lums can also be hiding in hedges. Other environmental elements include wall flowers that bounce you to new locations and switches that cause platforms to appear.

The controls are intuitive and the game makes the port from console to computer successfully. Jumping, shooting and running all have logical key bindings such as the arrow keys for moment and the spacebar for jump. These controls allow the player to focus more on the music and colourful environments without getting bogged down by difficult controls.

The landscapes and environments of Rayman Origins have been brought to life using colourful artwork and clever animations. Aided by the music and the overall atmospheric feel, the comic madness of Rayman games fans have come to love ensures in Rayman Origins.

Honesty is something potential reviewers should cherish, so I find it quite troublesome that you said nothing about the game in 5 paragraphs. Reads like a knitting magazine game review, lacks coherence and picks on the least important features.

I agree; the only thing about that review that is actually a review is that the key bindings work ok.

I played the original Rayman many years ago and came here out of curiosity about the new one. This review gives me no info that I didn't already know from playing the game in 1995.

While i agree that the review isn't that good, i have to say: If you like the original 2D Rayman, then Rayman Origins is a MUST BUY.
I always liked The first rayman, but never liked rayman in 3D, now we are back to the roots and i'm having tons of fun with rayman origins, it reminds me very much to the old one. :)

Allow me to say that it's a must buy not because it's Rayman, but because it's one of the best platformers in history of gaming. Massively underrated title.

groocz, it's only nice that you try to pursue the art of reviewing, so i have nothing negative to say about that but go for it..

As it stands now, your review most of all lacks personality and depth. Know that 90% of your readers already know rayman (so keep the introduction brief and to the point), and get really into it. Find your own style and see if it appeals to a specific crowd, don't try and copy other universal writing styles to try and please everybody. There are already plenty of those writers,

I must say I wasn't expecting much from a reply comment, but when I read it I was pleasantly surprised with a great joke with tight controls. The graphics were a little bland and the palette was a little small, but the content was fully worth my time. 9/10

Jokes aside, the review was very well written but I didn't tell me whether the game was good or not, what was special about it, if it met expectations or exceeded them. You just described it, and said that its a game, nothing more.

What sticks out most for me as a strong point of the game is the time from death to back in action. Not to mention there is no life system thank god for that :)

It really works well when your determined to beat a level and a death doesn't set you back like in some games where you must wait 10 seconds watching the character die 10 seconds of loading and 10 seconds of the character returning to life.

Or worse in some games an unskippable cut scene every death is another extremly frustarting thing to have happen.

So Rayman Origins has a perfect flow in that regard and will always be inviting you to keep trying and to play more with its ease of flow.
