Hello,
Recently I have been experiencing problems with Cold War Assault, the first one being a sudden crash towards the beginning of the 'Maverick' mission and the second happening as soon as the game boots up.
I have actually fixed them and seeing as either of these problems have been posted on these forums with no reply i'll tell you what I did here in case someone else finds it helpful.
What I was not aware of when selecting graphical settings for CWA was that it was designed to run best if things like 'Terrain Detail' and 'Visibility' are set to specific values. After looking on other forums I found that Terrain should be set to 'Normal' whilst Visibility should be kept at '900'.
If you're only experiencing the maverick crash then you're ok, changing these settings SHOULD fix that problem. If you're an idiot like me because you set the visibility to 5000 then try this:
1. Find your CWA installation in your steam folder (steamapps/common)
2. Access the 'USERS' folder and then access the folder that shares your CWA profile name.
3. Open up UserInfo.cfg using wordpad and find a line (CTRL+F) within the document that contains 'viewDistance'.
4. Once found, simply change the value found after the = symbol to 900.
5. Save the document and load up CWA again, should be sorted.
I hope this helped somebody and I am aware that this is probably simple stuff for some but I was quite annoyed when I thought I may have permanently ruined CWA especially when the same problems occured after a complete reinstall.
