View Full Version : Widespread issues aren't taken seriously

Like many of you, I am a gamer that played AoE from the very first title up until AoE3. Now this went on sale I couldn't pass it up. It looked a lot like my favorite title in the series ( Age of Mythology ) so I had my hopes up high.

But from there the frustrations started:
- Forced to install third party game manager. Game asks me for a CD-Key. Had to restart game multiple times, log into GFWL client multiple times, had to verify my account on xbox.com ( ??? ). Finally it worked after 45 minutes. Nearly everyone had this on steam, some people still can't play as of now. Unacceptable.

- Wanted to start the game a bit later but the servers were down for I believe more than five hours until 18:00GMT for a weekly maintenance! This is nearing European peak times, is this supposed to be a joke? I can understand if this was an emergency but to me this is unacceptable.

- Could finally play this game after more than four hours. Enjoying it so far, until maybe the part where GFWL kicks me out TWO times within five hours of gameplay. I had to start the whole mission over again from scratch just because there is an issue at your front. Many people are getting annoyed with this, yet nothing is done to improve the customer experience. Unacceptable.

We shouldn't have to go through a massive headace to enjoy a game. A game, especially a MMO, is a service and should be treated as one. These issues are widespread and not just limited to single cases. Customer support is playing the book and giving people irrelevant solutions to a common problem, while developers seem to ( to me, as a customer ) ignore this massive issue.

When you see the massive list of people having issues with the game pile up it almost seems arrogant to ignore something like this. All we want is a proper service, so we can play smoothly without the risk of losing all our progress on factors that are out of our control.

I have to admit your post gave me a giggle. Is this the first time you have ever played an MMO or something?

Bugs and MMO's are like Money and Taxes, you never have and never will have one without the other, get used to it.

I do not consider constantly getting ditched from the server and having to start from scratch again after ~1 hour of gameplay to be just a bug. It's an issue that needs to be fixed.

I can accept many glitches and usually I am not bothered by them, but this totally breaks the fun for me. Having an automatic save feature or being able to reconnect to your game is pretty much essential in this type of game in my opinion.

I'm with CyberRage on this one.

If anyone posting here, you're obviously a Steam user and you obviously have to go through what the OP has gone through. For example I had to gone through this ordeal as the op to play the game when Steam is known to be simple, convenience and easy to get into but not this case.

And i quote:

I also want to ask the heck does the game have to disconnect us on single player mission? A friend called and we had a chat but by the time i return i got kicked from my mission for being away for to long?

Does this mean we're sweat shop workers now with no time out on real life?

Everything is run off of the LIVE servers. There is not a save option because it is all real-time. It is unfortunate if you ever lose connection to the servers. However, I have been playing the Steam version for over 24 hours now and I have not disconnected once.

Also, MMO is the last genre to describe AoEO. It is much more of an RTS than an MMO. It is truly an RTS with MMO elements.

OP does have a couple of valid points.

1. The need to install another client interface to access the game. Games For Windows Live (GFWL) is annoying if you don't use it often.

2. The need to create a GFWL account. Seriously, a waste of time. Sony did that whole Sony World well, but is annoying when trying to plug a B Plug into an A Hole.

3. Considering that there's the Steam Interface and DRM already nobody wants to or should need to fiddle with another.

4. It's an RTSMMO or MMORTS or whatever it's called, it's quite fun to be honest. The bastard child when Mr. MMO got drunk with Ms. RTS

I bought a civilization pack a few days ago and still don't have anything to show for my money :/ Waiting for steam support to get off their butts. They really need to sort out these issues, 'Not receiving the product' seems like a pretty big problem to be honest.

What do you mean you didn't receive it? Is it not unlocking the premium civs in-game?

Yeh, it just says 'Upgrade' and directs me to buy it even though i've already bought it
