Since when did Facebook start asking its users for scans of their passports?
That sounds super dodgy. I won't even let them know my cell phone number that they keep hassling me for.
Anyway Russell Howard you make me laugh although one thing did make me question the sanity of Snorkel's country.

How can a 4 year old test so high?! Was it a test designed for kids?!
I have a pretty poor opinion of mensa too.
Easy. She's only 4, and Age is in the divisor (bottom part) of a division equation to figure the score. The lower the divisor in division, the higher the result.
I'm guessing anyway, but it explains her score. She ain't as smart as someone your age, for example, with an 159 IQ.
Screw the rules, I have mana.

I can't explain how much. Imagine the laggiest game you have ever played, and then multiply it by 100. That's 1% of how laggy the game was.

It occered to me that I have no idea what people are saying whwn they chat during games. Someone just said, during MW3, "bluz. Will you please take some damage so it looks fair?" At first I thought he meant our damage from the forums. but he didn't. not sure what he meant.
Then yesterday in CSGo someone kept typing, "zzzzz". Kids. Hmmp.

So Steamworks doesn't exist on Origin, that's good to know. Hopefully we see Bethesda games on Origin soon.
They have Shogun 2. :D
Assuming Steamworks games can't appear on Origin. Bethesda games are Steamworks even in Retail. So it's going to require Steam even if they Origin got them. Bethesda would not of put so much effort into Steam Workshop.
As far as I know the Origin version of Saints Row 3 just gives you a key and it activates on Steam.

If Saints Row 3 requires Steam even when purchased digitally via Origin then why isn't this mentioned anywhere on the website? Surely something so obvious wouldn't have been overlooked by EA?
It would also mean that Fish-E was lied to when he asked support.

Maybe it's because of posts like these. Hmmp.
You're over 30, what's with the constant cutesy wutesy stuff? :p
I didn't mean to get too personal and my comments weren't directed to any particular member (though I did mention names), but the majority of posts seem to be chat room filler and role-play. TIAM still has a purpose, obviously, though for me, it's hanging on a thread. Pun intended, mother♥♥♥♥er! Anyway, the posts that made me stay and post for years are few and far between, not many of those pop up these days. Sincere discussions were a commonplace back in the day, now it's chins this and Asian girls that, and I'm thinking to myself: "Why am I reading this ♥♥♥♥?" I am sincerely interested, when I come to this thread, when someone from the other side of the world posts a story or their thoughts on something interesting, relevant or funny or thought-provoking and some effort goes into that. That's what I always expected, when clicking on it. Now there's rarely anything stimulating to read. I know people aren't here to entertain me, that would be ridiculous, but it's like this great thread has been torn down by pointless ♥♥♥♥.
I unsubscribed yesterday, for the first time in 3 years. How many threads have been active for 3 years on the same level as TIAM? Now it's a sticky, it's full of ♥♥♥♥ and I no longer care what anyone says. It's just a thread, but I sincerely thank for all the help and support people have given me, when I've felt my absolute lowest, all the helpful/interesting/funny links, the jokes, the lot. It's been a great run, so thank you.

Congratulations Supernaut! You've single-handedly made this thread depressing.
It's been depressing for a while. Few have really bothered to notice.
I forgot to mention, I hope I've been of some help to people over the years, I always tried to give something back, wherever I could, cos a lot of the longtime regular user got me through some very dark periods. Now I'm working at a new job, I'm off my medication after using it for a year, I finished high school last year during a low period, after leaving it hanging for 7 years and on Friday, after work, I actually felt normal in public transportation. And I ♥♥♥♥ing hate public transportation.

Support services make mistakes all the time. Secondly, why would Origin be a special butterfly and Steamworks removed from it's version? Not even the THQ Store sells Steamworks free version of Saints Row 3.

Easy. She's only 4, and Age is in the divisor (bottom part) of a division equation to figure the score. The lower the divisor in division, the higher the result.
I'm guessing anyway, but it explains her score. She ain't as smart as someone your age, for example, with an 159 IQ.

Interesting idea, but that wouldn't work so well once people got above 16 or so. But perhaps they do something like that for young children? *shrug*
Also, no because that stuff is spelt "manna" :p
Interestingly enough I'm too much of a chicken to watch any of the alien films. I did watch Predator though.
You should watch the first one at least, probably the second as well. They're not really scary, the first one is more very atmospheric. The second one is more of an action movie.
But, I don't watch horror movies at all because I'm chicken, yet I loved the Alien films :)
I really hate that I can't delete my posts in Trade.
Really? I wonder why they blocked people from doing that? I used to delete trade threads after successful trades just to get them unclogging the forum somewhat.

I've been around since its creation, aside from the four months I missed between last November and March. I remember it used to be more common for long and serious posts, more common than nowadays.

Very true, though I'm still puzzled by Bluz's/Europhoria's long-running variety show. I wish it had more variety, they're otherwise such witty guys.
When I'd cross-check the new wave of regulars with an age thread, the results would probably make more sense of this, I suppose.

I'd imagine this thread could seem kind of intimidating for noobs, with all the strange stuff going on among what appears to be a small group of regulars. Kind of like stopping and talking to that group of people you always see hanging out together at school/work/prison cafeteria/church/divorce court/the morgue and wherever else.

Wall o' text That's what TIAM's always been. Plus I've found it a good place to vent and chat and cajole with y'all and I've become fond of some of you.
Anti-Wall o' textIt was this random when I first started posting a year ago. <Shrug> Honestly sticky, no sticky, this thread kept going. Be ANTI-TIAM but know it's not a rare breed on SPUF. There are plenty of large threads of people talking, chatting, etc all over SPUF. This isn't an isolated case. I assume (I wasn't here for the drama) that there was a lot of butthurt going around from BOTH PARTIES (not just you) and well, y eah that ends in this. <Shrug> If you're looking for a petty laugh, youc an get that here, if you're looking for answers, you can find that here, and if you're looking for people to understand and to understand the people who chat here, there's that too. You take out of TIAM what you put into it or expect out of it. That's all.

Glad you're doing better.
Also, no because that stuff is spelt "manna" :p
It was a 'play on words'. :p
well finally the job looks quite ok/cool and the guys i'm working with seem like really good Bud042's.
Fixed. ;)

OMG, I'm getting so annoyed by all the "They're bringing (Game Name) to PC... hope they bring it to Steam and not (Rival DD)."
Gah!!!
Try to aim a little better next time - it ricocheted and annoyed me too. ;)
14 responses in an hour, that's pretty good, but way too easy. The point is nobody knows much of anything about anybody around here.
I could say that any one of you is an alien from planet Zetox and it would get a huge response. Whether I believed it or was just indifferent to the actual truth is another question. Don't presume too much. This is just a time filler.
The real point is that I live in a relatively isolated place, and it interests me to see what the rest of the world has to say.But it doesn't seem to want to say very much. It's indifferent to me and my thoughts which I suppose justifies my relatively isolated lifestyle. So if we are not going to have any sort of meaningful discussion then it really doesn't matter what I say or what you say. You go on about your random thoughts and I may do likewise.
But it interests me that you all feel the need to express such a massively defensive reaction when you're criticized. You don't sound like really self-confident people.
When I was young I never expected to live past 30, given the circumstances. Now 30 was 23 years ago. I never should have made it this far, it was all just dumb blind luck, but the fact that I survived is all that really matters. We can argue, flame each other, whatever. But after I get through with this I am going to have dinner, then play some more Rainbow 6 Vegas 2, then maybe watch a movie. This is all just a curious sideshow.
I am certainly cantankerous, but that has a lot to do with the fact that most of my old friends are gone. I could go to the cemetery and talk to them, but they wouldn't have much to say either. One of them came to me in a dream a while ago. We were having coffee and chit-chatting like we always do. Then I asked him what it was like to be dead and he stopped talking, the strangest look passed over his face, then he got up and left without saying another word. I am still thinking about that a lot.
You are the world and I am confident my feelings about you are justified. Enough random musings, time for dinner.

I would just like to say how much I appreciate this thread.
Woke up this morning to a very bad headache and spent all day in bed trying to get rid of it. There are a lot of days like that so I usually don't mention it. I don't get out of the house much so this thread is somewhat a sub for a missing social life. While I don't really know anyone, it is still a familiar place to help fill a social need that can't really be met anywhere else for me in my situation.
Sometimes it's like family. People will bicker a bit and even hold grudges. But for the most part it is nice cozy corner of the forum. It is my sincere hope I don't have to add anyone to the ignore list because I think we all have our failings from time to time. I know I do.
So again, I really appreciate you guys. You're a mix of helpful, informative, fun, and casual. All the best. Especially to those who make the days and nights shine a bit brighter.

I met a girl this afternoon. Her accent sounded mildly Irish, but unusual, perhaps she's lived here or somewhere else for a while so her accent has become an interesting combination, or perhaps is a regional variation I haven't heard. Or perhaps her accent isn't Irish at all.
I'm never sure whether to ask "Are you from Ireland?" and risk the answer "What? How dare you! I'm from [somewhere that has a long-standing grudge against Ireland]", but possibly have the bonus of getting their place of origin right and getting kudos for that.
Or to ask "So, where are you from?" and risk "What? You can't recognise my accent? Stupid!"...but I'm thinking this is probably the safer option.
I've been pretty wary about doing it wrong ever since I offended a Korean girl at my school by asking if she was Japanese.

Hah, well, while I don't get mad about it, I get asked where I'm from a lot. I think it's a mixture of exposure to four different and pretty strong accents during my years of speech development, plus my own odd phrasing, inflection and timing.

That's because the Irish were treated with at best, an insufferable indifference by the British and the Koreans with utter brutality by the Japanese. Even to this day the Koreans in Japan are subjected to apartheid conditions being denied citizenship despite successive generations being born in Japan thus limiting their access to certain services like housing. It's not something that just affects Koreans living in Japan. On the surface Japan looks quite welcoming to foreigners especially westerners but try to live there on a semi-permanent basis and you'll find how truly unwelcoming Japanese really are and I'm not just talking about places that refuse entry to 'white people'.

Well, you are recovering from surgery so it is very understandable. I don't imagine you are very mobile yet and have to pretty much take it easy.
The thing I like about this thread versus something like faceplace or other sites is this is a site mostly for gamers and that is what I relate to the most. I'm not one to sit and chat about a broad variety of topics with strangers. I'd rather it be with a group who have a common interest and bond.
The only other chat group I have a link with is a news site where people discuss news and that usually ends up being very inflamed when it touches on politics or economics etc. I guess it is peoples nature to flame so I really value TIAM for a place where people are mostly on good behavior.

Her family disowned her, then the marriage fell through, so she was on her own. I'm not sure why she decided to work in Okinawa but I thought it very strange that a family would do that.
But then there were much worse story's to be heard about how daughters were treated by the Okinawans so it's all a matter of perspective, I suppose. The world can be a cruel place at times.

Well in discussing Rainbow 6, particularly the Vegas games, I'm running the risk of inciting a certain TIAM regular who doesn't like them because they're 'made for idiot gamers'...
But yeah, Vegas 2 gets pretty hard in the later stages, especially on "Realistic" difficulty, which is how I usually play it. The part you're talking about in the theater had me stuck the first time I played it for a long time. I rage quit that section more times than I could remember. What finally worked is to go snipe the guy below quietly, then drop down the fast ropes with the team following and go to the left towards the stairs that go down.
Then I toss some smoke down there with the heat goggles on and run down and just blast away at everyone, dropping another smoke grenade when the first one fades away. By then the guys have caught up and they can help.
But then that next bit is pretty tough too after defusing the bomb - trying to get through that warehouse is a serious PITA.
I love the 'Terrorist Hunt' games too, although it would have been so much better if they had made it where the enemies all spawn at the beginning, like in the regular game, rather than on some really close trigger. It would be great for some true stealth action and planning, except for that.

I remember my dad hated Japanese even through he wasn't enlisted during WWII or the Korean War. No one in our family had ever been harmed by anyone in any war. But he was so hateful of them he didn't want me taking Karate. Explaining that Karate came from Okinawa didn't sway his opinion, though he eventually tolerated my taking classes.
There's a lot of prejudice in the world. I think it is somewhat 'natural' in the sense that it is a common characteristic of many people. Perhaps it is a carry-over from survival instincts of our ancestors. Distrust for those not 'in your group' was probably a safety issue as much as anything.
It is an interesting study in economics and culture to learn that much of the mingling of cultures is often a result of trade. Even today it is often the desired exchange of goods that necessitates diplomatic tolerance between diverse cultures.
I'm still trying to figure out what that censored word is. I know a good deal of four-letter words, but none of them make any sense there. ;)
I'm thinking it is pretty inflammatory and probably rhymes with ape and cape. I don't get the connection because Okinawans don't consider themselves to be Japanese and vise-versa. In fact there is or was quite a bit of hatred of the Japanese by the Okinawans as they felt historically oppressed and mistreated by Japanese governance. I was quite surprised when Nixon turned Okinawa over to the Japanese and I can tell you the Okinawans were very unhappy about it. Hopefully things have improved since I was over there.

I never really followed the Japanese part of WW II, and Japanese culture or history doesn't interest me in the slightest. Which is odd because I'm interested in virtually everything else in the world, lol. ;)

Yikes, looks like a walked into a heated debate.
Eh, most countries treat immigrants quite badly in one way or another. I know a few people who have had to go through the UK's immigration control system, for example, and they got treated like sub-human dirt. It's actually in the interests of a few of the higher-ups to keep cultures seperated, so don't expect to see these problems go away any time soon.

My interest came out of wanting to gain a deep understanding of Karate, which I found fascinating. That led to an immersion into the culture behind martial arts. I also found that Western education was very lacking in teaching much about Eastern history and philosophy so most of it had to be self taught. In my school days we learned a lot about Western Civilization but very little about Eastern. How is it that world history and philosophy could leave out half the northern hemisphere?

Hah.
I chickened out and didn't ask her :S
In all my 23 years on this planet, I've never seen anyone react in the second way you described with "You can't recognise my accent?". Even if she did (unlikely I reckon), you could just say "No, sorry".

Well I for one don't remember ever learning anything about eastern history or culture in school. To be honest though all I was ever interested in when I was in school was science and I only paid attention to other subjects when I had to take a test. ;)

I take it you haven't traveled much outside of your home country. Her experience is actually pretty common if you happen to violate a cultural bias.
Koreans, Japanese, Chinese and so on may become pretty offended if you make a wrong assumption. They see themselves as distinctly different whereas to a Westerner they may simply appear to be 'Asian'. There are a lot of cultures that are that way. Not every one in a culture will be like that but there are tendencies in the general populace.
And so people will know I'm not singling out one area of the world, I'll give you a Western example. Call a Texan an Okie or vise-versa and you may find yourself in a fist fight. Especially during a Cotton Bowl Football game. ;)

Changing the subject ever so slightly....
I wish game makers would all have a link to just give me a description of their stupid game without all the BS.
As it is I hardly ever even look at their sites and get my information from Wikipedia instead. It's quick, efficient, and doesn't want to force me to click through a hundred Flash thingies or heavily doctored trailers.
Just the facts, ma'am.

If your'e serious about that then try starting an interesting discussion and see if you can keep it going for 10 posts without a bad joke, childish remark, someone complaining about their latest hangnail, stubbed toe, etc. Bet you can't. The whole point of this thread being sticky is that now you and your 2 dozen friends have your own little separate area, your own little chat room completely isolated form the other thousands and thousands of forum members, and nobody is seriously going to try and join you in your quarantine, which is what you wanted. You don't want variety, you just sound vaguely ambivalent.See this post. (http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showpost.php?p=29492314&postcount=57)I bet a year from now this thread will be gone. You may not believe it but wait and see.
Sorry to drag the discussion back around to this, but it does bear saying.
Irreverence keeps the wheels greased, but there's a time, place and volume where things can get a little much. Y'all know as well as I do that it's impossible and unfair to say exactly where the line is, nor do I want to. But there is one, somewhere. As a moderator my responsibility is that posts not interfere with anybody joining in or keeping up with the subject at hand; both Off Topic and this thread are largely exceptions of course, but I have noticed that TIAM is spilling over into other places on occasion.
Party on, dudes.

I don't know. It seems to have worked out for corporations with large companies turning into massive multinational conglomerates, not to mention many research firms including universities benefiting greatly from the importing of foreign talent. Universities will frequently do exchange programs between staff members. My uncle attends engineering conferences all over the world in which knowledge and experience is exchanged.

Right, I was wondering why though - was it by request from either within or without?
I don't remember seeing any discussion about it anywhere before the fact, it just kinda happened one day.

Because I felt it was less intrusive when kept away from threads which have more meaningfully recent content, i.e. it was a "bumped" thread that was appearing among "updated" threads.

Just got my 100th DotA 2 win and it was my first match as Skeleton King, who's just awesome, that 60 second cd on his ult is fantastic (well, I assume it is, I didn't die once I got it :p). Riki got fed early on but we still managed to win.

Some of those threads occasionally do transform into meaningful threads.
If not, you could always try terraforming them more to your liking.
